Hello everyone,

I make this to topic to receive help because I am addicted to pornography and masturbation. I tried to deny it at first but when I became watching it like once every two weeks, I knew I was addicted. And these past few days I’ve been doing it even more. I really want to stop doing this because I know it’s destroying me, and everytime I finish I feel so far away from God. I feel as if he’s left me and there is no hope. I need all the help you guys can give me from prayers to anything, really anything will help. I want to stop doing this and I’m committed to stop doing this.

Than you for you help!

GSME ,I will pray for you but please get some professional help and treat it like any addiction. You can kick this .God bless.

Act of Contrition + Confession will help you. Wear the Rosary. Also, obtain a crucifix, have it blessed if you’d like, and put it near the site of most frequent temptation.

Make an act of Contrition and get to Confession ASAP.

Do not receive the Eucharist until you’ve been to Confession, as doing so will just add another sin to your repertoire.

Some people will suggest child blocker type things, but those can easily be disabled especially if you are the one who set it up. It takes self control and patience.

I too struggle with pornography and lust… I’m a 29 year old American man, so I’m certainly not alone, and neither are you.

Good luck.

Overcome masturbation by reducing sexual desire? Catholic Living
Bud, you’re looking at it all wrong. You’re thinking it’s not possible with how “high” your sexual desire is. That’s not true. God’s Grace is enough to overcome any temptation. Let me give you some hints: Cut it out. Stop doing it. It sounds like you might have a dependence upon pornography. It on average takes about 3 months of no porn to “rewire” your mind. Now, here’s what you do. AT THE BEGINNING of temptation, not when you’re about to do it (though if you get this far, pray then too),…
Read my comment here, I have pretty much the same advice here.

Be patient.
What is patience? Patience is the difficult space between the person we ought to be and the person we really are.

We all know we should be saints. At the same time, most of us are not.
What to do with that gap?
Patience endures that journey…patiently and hopefully, expecting progress while being thankful for what you have right now.

Patience recognizes that you need to progress in sanctity, and at the same time, recognizes God’s love for you just as you are. If you can’t accept that God loves you right now, you find it hard to move toward sanctity.

It takes time and effort to be a saint.

Im also struggling with this most of my life and I’m sick of not being able to receive Jesus because of this and confessing the same sins over and over again only to fall in a week or 2 I don’t know what to do with myself. Some pointers I have is to look into the nofap community especially motivational speakers they really helped me. There is this one guy especially his name is gabriel kalei bocanegra he has a youtube channel with hundreds of videos and talks on nofap and pmo addiction he really helped me and I suggest you start listening to him.

I reccomend the same advice that I linked to earlier! Ultimately, breaking sin requires grace and is a spiritual concern. Those in such loving communities can help, but ultimately I believe running to Christ is the best way to break sin.

I really agree with the other responses here, GSME. It would be great if you were able to take onboard some professional advice and treat this as such of an addiction. It would also be important for you to obtain a blessing of your rosary beads and treat this with dignity by wearing these, or obtaining something alike it; a crucifix?

Attending confession is also a massive step in the right direction! My prayer for you today will be that you can take this advice given to you and become closer with God, in hope that your addiction to pornography and masturbation lures.

Father Zach

I believe that a good way to combat this is by offering a mortification for something in return. For example, you pray to God by saying something like “God, i wont touch myself nor watch porn as a mortification for X or Y intention” ( this could be the healing of a loved one, a job, etc, something that it’s worth the trouble).

Previous remarks regarding the Rosary: Pray the Rosary, don’t wear it.

Besides spiritual things I recommend finding some resources about getting away from this. It is a big problem, even among practicing Christians. Having multiple devices in your home that can deliver pornography to you at any moment make this a very challenging sin to cleanse oneself of.
