Dear friends,

I haven’t been on the CA Forum for many many weeks due to a complete binge of addiction. I am addicted to prescription medication and have neglected my faith, instead of turning to God for help, I have turned the other way and neglected my spiritual life. It is with deep regret that I have not felt “able” to practise my faith.

Anyway. Three or four nights ago I was lying in bed when I could smell burning. I woke up and looked to my left (towards the door) when I saw a “sudden” strike of what looked like fire.

Most dreams are forgotten by the next day but this really stuck with me. It was a sort of “awakening” - like a reminder that I have completely forgot about our heavenly father and the consequences of being non-faithful.

Tonight (Tuesday) I am going to Mass but will ask for a confession first. I am asking God for help with my addiction and hope you will pray for addicts too.

I have the same vice, I got started on prescription painkillers, and once those got too expensive, I moved up to Heroin, Thankfully, I got into a Suboxone treatment plan with a good doctor, but Im finding Suboxone is just replacing one drug with another, as it does give some similar opiate feelings.

A little over a year ago, at a time when I was out of money, and out of dope, when I say out of money, I mean, I literally had spent my last $10. on dope, I tried to commit suicide, I just could not see another way out, Im glad I did not succeed though, as Im in a completely different mindset now, during the past year, I saw friends get arrested and 2 of them got 15 year prison sentences all because of this terrible drug. I know for a fact God was watching me that day, as if the drug strike force had busted them just 2 hours later in the day, I would have been arrested too, I thank God every morning when I wake up in my own bed!

You didnt mention the particular drug, but Im assuming some type of opiate, you are lucky that you have not moved up to Heroin yet, going from pills to H is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire, Opiates in general are one of the toughest things to get free of as well, a very low percentage of people actually succeed at staying clean, but Im positive with God help, he can help a person get and stay clean.

Good luck.

Praying for the OP and all those struggling with opiate addiction.

Read post no. 3 a lot. No one knows anything about anything unless they’ve been through it.

You and Mikekle will be in my prayers.
God is able.
Nothing in this life is easy - God helps us get through it.

You don’t “practice” your faith. God is just a part of your life. You may leave Him, but He doesn’t leave you.

I like Philippians 4:8…

Many thanks for that post Mikelke - I’ve been there too. Tonight was a real eye opener. It was great seeing everyone from Church and having my sins absolved felt great too.

Many tough days / weeks ahead but I feel like God is on my side now.

Friend!
One can never believe a personal private revelation to you unless approved by a few, or just one, really Holy spiritual director priest.

And they may tell you the affirmative, God may have permitted you to witness what happens to Souls that wilfully remain in disobedience to him.
