iam new here if some1 is addicted to drinking caffeine or using facebook or stuff like that should they give it up 100% or just give it up some>:confused: 😦 :confused:

I actually didn’t even realize those could be addictions. I don’t think they are harmful addictions, so no, I don’t think you should give them up completely.
Are you certain they are even addictions? I have expirience with addictions. My father was an alcoholic, and I was a cutter, both of which are very serious. Just think har whether what you have is truely an addication.

It depends on how strong the person is and what they are addicted to. If the addiction is serious enough that it is interfering in the person’s life, and they aren’t strong enough to limit their use of whatever it is they are addicted to, then maybe they need to give it up 100%. Obviously, if a person is addicted to food, they can’t quit eating altogether, but they can seek help to stop overeating. Remember, any created thing that we put ahead of God becomes an idol, so if someone’s facebook habit/online gaming/whatever is causing them to neglect their spiritual obligations, they are in danger of crossing the line into sin.

Welcome to CAF!

As you mentioned, drinking coffee is not a serious addiction to solve… Its an habbit… Everyone like to drink coffee… Actually drinking coffee makes a man’s mind fresh… Drugs or some thing drug based addictions only must be cured…

Well there is an actual caffeine addiction. Its not a ā€œI gotta have my shot of caffeine right now or I’m going to go crazyā€ but a, ā€œif I don’t have a cup of coffee by noon I’m going to have a headacheā€. šŸ˜‰ There is nothing wrong with the ā€œuse of caffeineā€ in moderation and there are also studies that say a couple cups of coffee a day have health benefits so that is not an addiction I’d be worried about.

Any online thing wither it be Facebook or anything else, moderation is key. If you doing anything so much that your life is negatively impacted you may need to remove it completely form your life.

As with anything else you have to ask yourself some questions;

Is it interfering with my obligations? (work, supporting a family, school)

Is it interfering with my relationships? (not spending time w/family, friends, or IRL b/c you are online too much or developing online ā€œrelationshipsā€ that violate any trust/boundaries with a spouse)

Is it interfering with my health?

Is it costing me too much money?

Is it creating an unhealthy attachment to things?

Is it interfering with my faith life?

If you are facing any of these, then you need to change your behavior. If you can moderate it-- great. If you cannot-- then yes you may have to consider discontinuing completely.

The dictum is ā€œAll things in moderation.ā€ However, this ignores the fact that human behavior is motivated by passion rather than anything else. Thus we might add to the above ā€œincluding moderation.ā€
I trust that this has sufficiently confused you.
