Adding a godparent after baptism

They can’t be on the paperwork, but nothing says s/he can’t be “called” a Godparent.

That was my thought too, but then I remembered that every time there was an emergency baptism and the child was later brought back for the anointing, presentation of the white garment, light, etc., the completion was noted in the records and the godparents were also added in the appropriate spot and then appeared on subsequent certificates.

no because you cannot change history, and the child cannot be rebaptized
but he can certainly choose another sponsor for confirmation at that time

you could only “add to the paperwork” if the godparent was present at baptism (or represented by a proxy) but the name for some reason was omitted from the original record. Yes when there is an emergency baptism and the rest of the rite supplied later, the godparent names can be added, but that is simply completing the original record, not changing it.
