At the monastery of St. Benedict in Norcia, Italy (a life-changing place and center of Benedictine reform, if you ever get the chance to visit), all of the solemnly-professed brothers are called Dom. Everyone else is addressed as “brother.”FYI, Only very few Benedictine monks are addressed as Dom. Dom is a sign of respect, and is usually reserved for members of a monastery who once were abbot or who did some great for the community.
