Adopt a holy soul

Last year I asked God to assign me a holy soul to adopt

I pray 2 hail Mary’s for a soul a day.

Just an idea, but you mustn’t forget, put a postit note on your mirror or something

It’s nice to pray for them, but the thing that would really help the holy souls in Purgatory would be to gain indulgences for them. This would directly shorten the time they spend in Purgatory.

Praying for them benefits them just as much as indulgences, if God wills. You should never, ever set aside prayer in that manner or say indulgences (which are just a form of prayer) are any better. I speak as someone who has been doing daily indulgence practice for the Holy Souls since 2017.

If you absolutely must say one particular way of helping holy souls (prayer, fasting, indulgences etc) is THE best way, then the best way is generally held to be having a Mass said for them. The benefits of a Mass are infinite.

Also, we do not know if indulgences shorten a soul’s time in Purgatory, or make it easier for them in some other manner (more comfortable Purgatory). “Time” as we know it does not exist after death.
