Want to do something relatively easy to help the Church? Adopt a seminarian. Just choose one who is studying for your diocese and begin to pray for him. You don’t even have to tell him you are doing it. Just pray and offer sacrifices for him to become a good priest. That’s it. Simple, but crucial.

That is a great idea! My parish has a holy hour on Thursday nites for vocations, and although attendance isn’t huge, it’s pretty good. I think I’ll mention your post on Thursday. 👍

I have read some posts here from young men who want/or are in the seminary.
I have been praying for them.

Since my brother is a priest, I had and still pray for him.
We need to pray for our priests and bishops too. Pray for more orthodox teaching and that hearts are opened to the TRUE teaching of Christ’s Church!

go with God!

My Knights of Columbus Council, all Latin Catholic guys 'cept for me, has been regularly “adopting” seminarians to support both financially and morally since we were chartered. Usually the seminarian is a local fellow from the Roman Catholic diocese our local RC parish is part of.

Proud to say that just this past month we voted to support not only a Latin Catholic seminarian, but also a Byzantine Catholic seminarian as well! Truth be told, these great Knights probably did it just to pacify me, their lone “Easterner” (…or maybe just to finally shut me up!😃 )… no matter - our seminarians, Eastern and Western, need ALL the support we can give them!

Toughest part was getting my brother Knights to understand that the “local” area that our Eastern Catholic eparchy encompasses (an “eparchy” is the Byzantine Catholic equivalent of a “diocese” in the Latin Church) covers a twelve state area!

We’ve adopted a whole seminary. Our diocese has a brand new seminary, with 26 men at various stages of formation (some sent up North for advanced study), most from Mexico or S America. They are invited to the Benedictine Monastery for all our functions, and all the nuns and oblates pray for them. We invite them to all our youth group retreats and celebrations, as other parishes do, and at the nearby campus ministry center. They are regular guests speaking to the high school classes about vocations, and telling their personal stories (this is part of their English language education). So our kids know them by name. Thanks to your suggestion, I am going to assign the name one seminarian to each of the small groups in the Confirmation class for individual prayer, thanks for a great idea.

What a wonderful idea! My son, Simon, has completed four years - 2 years of Pre-seminary and 2 of the 7 years of Seminary - so far.

We live in Trinidad, and he is attending the Regional Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Ugandan Martyrs. He will, God willing, be ordained for the diocese of Port of Spain.

The Seminary has students from many of the English speaking islands of the Caribbean and Guyana - including Jamaica, Dominica, The Bahamas.

All of them need prayers - it’s a long road, and can be quie daunting.

If anyone wants to adopt Simon (his full name is Simon Moore), I would welcome it.

While praying for them is great, I would encourage you to do more! Our local KofC has adopted a seminarian. Not only do we pray for him, send cash when we can, and mainly we have established a friendship with him. I think he really enjoys knowing that so many people are rooting for him. We are currently trying to set up a Knights of Columbus visit to the seminary to visit on his home turf. I predict that many a tear of joy will be shed when “our” seminarian is finally ordained.

God Bless!

forgot to say we also feed our seminarians whenever we get the chance. seminary budget is extremely restricted and most of these young men are from poor families. We, that is several surrounding parishes invited them to any function that involves food and socializing, try to send them home with some goodies, snacks, leftovers, planned meals etc.
