I have often seen men in the adoration chapel (the chapel I visit is a separate building from the Church) prostrate themselves on the floor in front of the Blessed Sacrament. This is always so very moving to me, and reminds me of the ordination of our priests.

My question is:

Is it ever appropriate for a woman to prostrate herself in the same way?

The reason I ask this is really from more of an etiquette standpoint than a spiritual one, though that discussion is certainly welcome also. But I guess I’m thinking of it along the lines of when women would only ride side saddle because it was the appropriate way to do things.

Yeah yeah - I know - this is 2007. But just bear with me on this one. I’m not trying to chuck women back 100 years. I’m just wondering if it would be appropriate for a woman to take this posture in front of the Eucharist. For whatever reason.

Or am I just totally whacked to even consider that there is even any sort of problem with it at all? 🤷

St. Faustina would prostrate herself in front of the blessed sacrament for long periods of time.

I regularly feel compelled to do this but am afraid that if someone walks in they may think I’ve passed out!

Lovely token of devotion to do so - not that I ever have harumph - old arthritic knees etc etc you know

Last time I was in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC I saw a woman doing this.

You’re just totally whacked!! 🙂

That’s what I suspected! 😃

I felt so silly when I saw the first response, I never considered the saints!! :o

I was very moved to do this myself yesterday, but I felt very self conscious about it. And also afraid that I would just gush into tears all over the floor if I did so. 😊

Thanks all for this - sometimes I get all wrapped up on silliness and loose sight of the real issue.
