Adoration for Not-Quite Catholics

Hi guys!
I am currently in the process of completing RCIA and would like to go to Adoration at my parish. I assume this is okay to do, but wanted to check and make sure there aren’t rules in the same vein as not receiving prior to finishing RCIA.

By all means go! There is nothing to stop you from going as often as you wish.
 
Sure. I go to Adoration and I’m not Catholic. I have for years and I seem to get a lot out of it.
 
Anybody is welcome. If it’s your first time,
  • be sure to genuflect, or if you physically can’t do that, bow deeply, to Jesus before you take your seat and when you leave
  • make sure you are going during a time when Adoration is open to all - some parishes have restricted entry after a certain hour or when the church offices are closed
  • do not leave Jesus alone; if you somehow end up being the only person in there then you need to stay until the next adorer arrives
Other than that, enjoy Adoration. If your parish has prayer and meditation books available, you might want to look at some of those when you arrive as they can provide some guidelines on making a holy hour, or a holy half-hour. However, they are just guidelines and you are not obligated to pray a certain way. Some people just sit with the Lord, some read Scripture, some read meditation books, some pray the Rosary or the Divine Mercy, some pray LOTH, etc.

Adoration is open to anyone in the world who wants to come — it is not limited to Catholics or even Christians. No sacrament is being received. I would even go so as to say, that if someone can’t quite absorb the doctrine of the Real Presence, come anyway, realize that Our Lord is present in some way beyond being just a “symbol”, and let Him speak to you.

What happens if you planned on an hour of adoration but after three or four hours, no one else has shown up? I realize this is probably just a “what if” question but just in case…am I really expected to spend an inordinate amount of time. Thanks…hoping this question isn’t objectionable! 😇

That’s extreme and is unlikely to happen. Chapels usually have a number “for emergencies” and after waiting a reasonable time, one would call it. Those chapels that frequently have trouble filling the schedule have made arrangements of their own, which I won’t post here for reasons of security.

What is more likely to happen is that the next person will be late for their hour by maybe 20 minutes.

I remember once about 3 years ago when I and 3 other people (2 other ladies and a man) were all at Adoration and it was scheduled to end at 8 pm but nobody showed up to repose the host. Three of us ended up sitting with Jesus while the fourth person went hunting for a priest, deacon or someone else with a key to the tabernacle. We were there about 45 minutes and when Jesus was finally reposed, one of the other ladies joked that us three women were the three Marys at the foot of the cross and the man was St. John.

Don’t be going to OUR prayer times!

Nah no restrictions at all. I really recommend it. I’ve always found adoration brings a real sense of peace.
 
I’m in exactly the same circumstances and I have been welcomed with open arms. I take my bible study book and my bible and spend my time in prayer and study.

The more I go, the longer I find myself staying each time.

I assumed as much but I never knew they had contact information…just in case! Thank you for a clear answer, ‘Tis! You always come through!
 
My parish has a sign-in sheet with the “emergency” number clearly posted.
 
Go to adoration. Just understand, why we Catholics go to adoration.
