Does anybody know if, at any time in Church history, either in the East or the West, there has ever been Adoration of Our Lord’s Blood, the Consecrated Wine? Obviously the Sacred Host has been adored in Monstrances ever since the Middle Ages, but has anyone ever thought about trying to develop a similar devotion to the consecrated wine?

Obviously, there would probably be a huge number of logistical problems with this, like finding a place to preserve the wine, as well as the fact that it would spoil more quickly than the Sacred Host. Nevertheless, I’ve always wondered about this. Any thoughts?

There was some Saint that wrote a lot about the Blood of Jesus. I think it may have been St. Gaspar. As far as Adoration, I don’t know.

I have seen someplace reasonably official that it is forbidden, but don’t remember where. It is probably because of the danger of spillage. Also glass containers are forbidden [if that makes a difference in many places  ] so it is not really exposed.

Obviously, of course, the Precious Blood is adored when it is elevated at the Consecration and at the Per Ipsum/Great Amen.

there have been some miracles where the wine has actually changed physically into blood. in those cases, the congealed blood is sometimes placed in a relequary and is adored.

but “regular” adoration of the precious blood, only occurs during the elevation at the mass.

Oficial church documents (not sure which) say that the precious blood is NEVER to be RESERVED.

Oh, of course, that’s obvious. I obviously adore the Precious Blood every time the Chalice is elevated at mass. I was just wondering about outside of mass.

Based on the posts, I guess not. And that is understandable, given the risks for spillage. I assumed that it’s never been permitted, but just wanted to see for sure. Thanks to everyone for all the (name removed by moderator)ut

As for the physical blood, I have a prayer card next to me from Lanciano witch a monstrance (from the looks of it) holding both the Body and Blood of Christ (as they both took physical shape).
The cup is made of rock crystal I think…
So it is, in a sense, Adoration of the Blood
