Adoration question

My church is having adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this Saturday and several of us have signed up to be there in shifts. I am taking an hour for this.

My questions are: Do I need to kneel for the whole hour? And what kind of prayers are permissible? Can I pray the rosary or read from the Bible?

This is a great opportunity and I don’t want to show any disrespect.
 
This is just what I do for whatever it is worth. I spend some time kneeling in prayer. I also sit and read the Bible, I have said the Rosary and just sat in conversation with our Lord…just being there. I think of it as time spent with an old friend, just sharing my thoughts. It is time well spent and sure goes by quick.

I love going to Adoration. I try to kneel the entire time I am there–I have a prayerbook with hour long Adoration prayers, but sometimes the ole knees can’t last the entire time.😦

It is great to have some peaceful time with the Lord.
 
I love making a Holy Hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Even if this was all there was, it was worth becoming Catholic.

You don’t have to kneel the whole time. I couldn’t even if I wanted to because of my ankle. I know people that do kneel, but lots of us don’t because of infirmities of body. We are kneeling in our minds and hearts.

I do different things, but always with the idea in mind that I am there to spend time with Jesus, not just study or read. I usually say the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I also do a lot of Bible reading–it’s neat to read God’s Word with God there helping me to not misinterpret it. And I just sit with Jesus and look at Him and let Him look back at me.

You are in for a blessed time!
 
Kneeling isn’t required of course, but you should for a good part of the time. But really, whatever you want to or can do is up to you.

You are planning to go there which is great in itself. 👍
 
1–postrating your whole body on the ground.

2- kneeling (the most common form)

3- Standing

4- Sitting

Many of the saints say that praying the Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament is the most perfect way to pray. But your personal private prayers along with your other devotions and prayers will please Our Lord very much as well.

As noted by others, it’s a personal devotion. BTW, it’s common to genuflect by kneeling on both knees and bowing. A slower and more deliberate and sincere showing of reverence than the quick genuflection we use at Mass.

Just surrender yourself to Jesus in adoration and gratitude the best way you can. There may be some times when you’ll use very few words. Every time of adoration is unique. : )

No you do not have to kneel for the whole time, You can get up and go to the bathroom. Any prayers or reading of a spiritual nature are fine, just don’t bring your office work!

If your pastor will allow and your church has an audio system for the hour you have signed up for I used to bring a CD of Chant or the Rosary and play it in the background.

Actually, I’ve brought my novels in to ask Jesus to help me make them glorify Him and help others to know Him.

I’ve heard that another Catholic author does the same–I think it might be Scott Hahn???

I suggest doing this only if you are by yourself, or anyone else who might be there agrees. I loathe having to listen to music during Adoration. It’s the only time I can enjoy silence.
 
l like to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in song and then I talk to Jesus. The last part I like to sit back and allow Jesus to talk to me. A lot of my questions have been answered this way:thumbsup:

I would do this only during my assigned hour.
 
This may sounds strange, but some times I like to sit on the ground cross legged in front of the Blessed Sacrament & listen. It make me feel as if I was sitting at the feet of Jesus during the time He was on earth & places me in a right attitude before the Lord.
 
I think whatever posture you choose, should be sufficient, so long as it doesn’t distract others from praying or block their view of the Blessed Sacrament. If your going to do something other than kneeling or sitting in the pew/chair, sit more to the back. Also note that wearing perfumes/colones can also be distracting for others. And most especially “whispering prayers”. Of course if you are alone with the Lord, none of this applies.

Not strange at all. Listening is sometimes much better than talking, 😉
 
When you walk in to the adoration room what should you do? Kneel or genuflect or kneel with both knees? I never know what to do when I first walk into the room and I get nervous not knowing if I’m doing it right or not.

you should go down on both kneels and bow low.
