I have a question about Eucharistic Adoration. Is there any difference, being in the presence of Our Lord in the Tabernacle or in a Monstrance?

I realize that for personal reasons, WE may feel closer to Jesus, if we can see Him. But is there any greater benefit in Him being exposed in the Monstrance?

I’ve been told not. But I don’t know how to go about checking.

Peace of Christ,

It’s the same Jesus! However I would rather talk to you face to face than talk to you through a door!

since there is no church closer than 40 minutes away that has perpetual adoration, and my husband will not let me make that drive on a dangerous highway at night, I am limited to the hour or so a week the Blessed Sacrament is exposed at churches here in town. During my daily adoration in the chapel before the closed tabernacle I offer up the penance of not being able to see Jesus face to face for all those who are denied access to the Eucharist because of persecution or absence of priests. I try to make sure I go to communion regularly so I have Jesus presence within me.

I understand what you’re saying! HOWEVER, my question is – it doesn’t matter, right? You don’t receive more Grace, etc., because Christ is in the Monstrance and not behind the doors of the Tabernacle, right?

This is an important question I need answered! We are trying to get Eucharistic Adoration started at our parish. Our Priest tells me that we already HAVE Adoration because Christ is present in the Tabernacle and we can come on down anytime the church doors are open – which is daily, from 8 to 3.

So the problem I’m facing is an education one. Many folks in my parish are trucking to a parish across town because Jesus is available in the Monstrance. They won’t consider coming before Christ in the Tabernacle because they don’t realize that He’s just as fully present.

I’m thinking the solution to the problem is to begin Adoration in front of the Tabernacle, fill that up, then our Priest will consider extending the hours with a Benediction and Christ in the Monstrance.

I hope this makes sense!

My point in all this is not to debate whether Christ in a Monstrance is better for ME (it’s not all about me!) but to actually begin working with what we have. Make sense?

Thanks.

I think your approach is correct. There really is no answer to your original question. Do we get more grace in front of a monstrance instead of a taberncle? Of course not. Our reception of Grace is determined by the disposition of our soul and our ability to receive Grace.
