Hi everyone,
Is it right to go to Adoration while in the state of mortal sin?.If a person has made an act of perfect contrition would that suffice until going to confession?.
Thanks in advance for any answers,
God Bless,
Mick.

Adoration is a sacramental, not a sacrament. There is no requirement that you be in the state of grace to participate. It’s a sacramental like the Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Since you are in the presence of the Lord, it is advisable that you clean up and show up with a nice clean soul. But it isn’t required.

If I am wrong, correct me someone.

i would think that if you don’t feel that you are in a state of grace, it is more important you go to adoration. that is where Jesus wants you to be - to be with Him.

i know whenever i go to adoration, i have such a sense of peace come over me. and i feel changed whenever i walk out like some kind of transformation has taken place.

if i could go to adoration everyday i would.

Note the prayer of the Tax Collector:
But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14* I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
What better place than Adoration to beg God’s mercy?

If a person makes an act of perfect contrition it would suffice until going to Confession, because it assumes that that it is not possible for them to go to Confession. If Confession is available to them and they choose to delay for some reason then it is of no help to them. Attending Adoration in a state of Mortal sin gains a person only Actual Grace, nothing more.

But that actual grace might be the grace that pushes them to go to Confession…

What better place is there to make one’s preparation /self-examination before Confession?

If you go to adoration in mortal sin, there will be no communication between you and God. Mortal sin cuts off your relationship with God. If you knew you were going to attend adoration, than, why didn’t you go to confession. You know that you can go to confession anytime. It just doesn’t have to be on a Saturday.

You could have gone an half an hour before adoration and asked the priest if he had time for your confession and I am sure he would have absolved you.

If you truly love adoration than I think you should have done something prior to attending it.

I am not being judgmental, only God can do that, but I am simply stating simple facts that could have been accomplished.

God bless you.

Genesis…

I love what you wrote! Well said…

I would add that it is precisely the separation from God that you describe that will prompt the sinner to seek to restore what has been lost through his sin…that is, seek reconciliation

We have a brand-new church in our area that has their reconciliation room INSIDE their Adoration Chapel… so, the penitent come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament before (and after) meeting Him in the Confessional! People are going out-of-their way to have their Confessions heard there!

His Peace, to you

I don’t totally agree with what you wrote. If there is no communication between a sinner and God, how is a sinner ever to come to reconcile before God. Many times it has been time sitting in adoration that has helped a sinner come to reconciliation. As another poster mentioned, what better place to examine one’s conscience. I do not think mortal sin completely blocks communication with God. God is always calling us, even when we sin, and it is in prayer and meditation that we can hear that call. I have at times recommended to those in mortal sin, who are afraid to confess, or who even have doubts about the existence of God, to spend time in adoration and to talk to God. God always responds to anyone who comes to Him with an open heart. Just read the scriptures, there are many instances of people in sin communicating with God.

God listens. He may not respond in the same way as to a person in grace.

The act of Adoration by a sinner is positive in itself. Focusing on the Blessed Sacrament is a good thing in every case.
