FWIW, it’s the moderators’ call, but I am also kind of surprised that the thread title was changed, as your original seemed OK to me.

To be honest I just don’t see the same problems in the article that you did. But you have every right to post it and discuss it. I may not be the best Catholic to judge by … :rolleyes:

Well, this happens to be true, silly as it seems to me at least! :rolleyes:

Some theologians, and some clergy, believe that maybe some people will get so devoted to just ‘adoring’ the Blessed Sacrament that they will stop going to Mass and having communion…does that make sense to you? It seems to me that anyone who sits in front of the Blessed Sacrament for an hour a week develops a consuming love and longing for the Eucharist that happily culminates in Mass and communions [at least on Sundays, if not daily!].

Every time I mention to a priest that I go daily to the Adoration Chapel, the first thing out of their mouths is ‘but of course, that doesn’t replace going to Mass & Communion!’…as if they had to mention that! 🤷

The ‘compelling part’ simply means that it is not mandatory in Catholic worship, doctrine or liturgy…which it isn’t…obviously, since not all parishes/areas even have it available…though the practice is growing…Thanks be to God! 👍

The writer could have ‘walked on eggshells’ or at least have been more explicit, but he chose not to, maybe thinking it wasn’t necessary. I understood, so it didn’t bother me at all. Now, it seems he could have been more careful, since he chose a particular type of subject that is very sacred to a large population. That is why we get so defensive, because Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is SO holy and sacred to us as Catholics. Unlike other sacred objects, we are contemplating the ACTUAL LORD!
 
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I sure hope that some non-Catholics get a little curious, even if it’s out of cynicism at first, and take a ‘look’ at our ‘strange practice’…which probably looks to outsiders as some sort of idolatry [if you don’t consider the words as literal as we do], but still shows immense commitment as a faithful community to be there keeping watch with the Lord 24/7! Don’t you think?

I only wished someone from the people he interviewed would have mentioned the passage about ‘Could you not keep watch for an hour with me?’

Those things stay with people even if they don’t want it to! 😉

  1. When you post on the news forums you must use the original news article title as your title to the thread. You can use a partial quote from the article but should not post the article in its entirety. A paragraph or two and then a link is recommended -no more than 3 paragraphs, I believe that’s the limit. Also if you have a problem with a moderator decision you are instructed to contact the moderator via the private message system not publicly on the board. I realize you’re fairly new to the board and may not be aware. God Bless.
 
I try to go to Adoration at least a couple of times a week, and I find it is an absolute spiritual lifelife, more powerful than anything except Mass itself. However, I am one of those not in the least offended by this article. This is written by a person who has no real understanding of what Catholics do. Try to see it from the point of view of the writer - here are a bunch of people bowing down and praying to a piece of bread! That is all he sees, and he can’t be blamed for that. In fact, with my eyes, that is all I see, but I know with my heart that it is much, much more.

I think the article was very well written and very fair, and it might pique the curosity of people to check it out themselves, and that can only be a good thing.

With all due respect, I think the OP is being too sensitive.
