I have non-hyperactive ADD. There isn’t really a medication for me, so I went to a specialist as a tween in order to learn how to improve my focus. I struggle with remembering dates and times, so organization is key. I have difficulty having conversations in the vicinity of other people talking. I can’t focus on phone conversations with the TV on. (which is problematic because my husband insists on constant TV noise) I turn music off in the car when I’m looking for a parking spot. I had to learn techniques to make deadly dull teachers think I was paying attention to them in school. I get really frustrated when people bother me when I’m trying to get ready to leave. The trick is to figure out your own brain, your weaknesses, and come up with a plan to overcome those difficulties. If there isn’t a therapist that can help with that, there should be. I’m not a fan of the pills. At best, they help when used in addition to learning coping skills. At worst, they have some nasty side effects.
Our ADD struggles sound similar! 😉 My working and short-term memory are probably 2/3 or more of my issues. Interruptions? :nunchuk: I don’t always deal with them well, to say the least. I’ve never taken a stimulant med for ADD because I also have anxiety and am sensitive in a bad way to stimulants. :hypno: My Android tablet has been a real godsend for reminders and also eliminating more and more paper clutter, a lot of which was “To Do” notes! :doh2: Lately it has been aggravating because I’ve just moved in with a different friend, am getting used to different schedules, and am finding it difficult to do my morning routine with my electronics, getting my ducks in a row for the day. :banghead:

At certain times of the year, it’s common for me to have a master list to help me keep track of my other lists. I’m pretty good memory wise, with the exception of numbers. I sometimes have to check three times to make sure I transferred a long number correctly. I’m very good at remembering words and things I hear and read.

I, too, confess to making those master lists of lists! 😃 My working memory stinks and I have an auditory processing thing I was diagnosed with that makes processing spoken words and instructions tricky. My ears are fine but the message gets scrambled between them and my brain! I hear “Mondegreen” versions of some words or phrases, and I can’t process more than one spoken instruction or spoken sentence containing new information that I need to remember. In short, I need to have these things presented one at a time or else be allowed to write them down in a way that makes sense to me. Fortunately, in college with most of my professors and to the present day, I have a knack for note-taking. I remember one professor, who I think must’ve had ADD himself - he rambled so much I finally gave up on trying to take notes when he spoke. I think it was one of those classes where if you read the books you did okay on the tests anyway.

Stimulents don’t work on me either.
