My questions pertain to the validity, not the liceity, of the Sacrament of Baptism for an adult with the use of reason. I’m working from the Summa, so in your responses, I would appreciate citations to authority (e.g., canon law, the catechism, etc.).
  1. Is Baptism valid if the recipient is baptized against his will? See Summa, III. Q.68, art. 7.
  2. Is Baptism valid if the recipient lacks faith? For example, assume a man receives baptism (without faith) that he may contract marriage with a Christian woman. See Summa, III. Q.68, art. 8.
  3. Is Baptism valid if the recipient desires baptism but lacks contrition for his sins and/or intends to remain in sin? See Summa, III, Q.68, art. 4.
If you answered no to any of the above questions, then a follow-up question: Would the Catholic Church require the person to be re-baptized or conditionally baptized?

Thank you!

Hello,
  1. No.
  2. Yes.
  3. Yes.
If it can be established that the person lacked the intention, then he is not baptized. At least a conditional baptism would be required…but, if the proof of the lack of intention is certain, the baptism should be absolute.

For reference, this statement of the Holy Office should suffice:
the intention or desire to receive baptism is a necessary requirement: if it is lacking, the baptismal character is not conferred on the adult. This does not apply to faith and penance, which are required if the adult is to receive the sacrament and its inherent fruits licitly: the intention is necessary for the validity of the sacrament, so that an adult baptized without faith and penance is baptized illicitly but validly; on the other hand, a person baptized without the will to receive the sacrament is neither licitly nor validly baptized" (The instruction *In foliis *of the Supr. S. Cong. of the Holy Office, 03-08-1860).
A further reference can be the “Roman Catechism”, in the section titled “Dispositions for Baptism”, found here: cin.org/users/james/ebooks/master/trent/tsacr-b.htm
