Adultery of the Heart

Jesus set the bar high when he spoke of the law of Moses forbidding adultery.

You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Suppose a husband who happens to take his faith seriously notices that another woman is attractive and is more attractive than his wife. Is simply noticing that another person is attractive the same thing?

You can’t expect men to wear blinders or lose all track of their common sense. People look at people. It’s normal. Sometimes a survival strategy. That’s why I think it’s wrong for women to dress too provacatively.

There’s a difference between noticing something: “Hey, look, a nice red car” or “She’s pretty.” and “I want her.”

I think sometimes people are being too scrupulous here.

Looking at an attractive woman and lust are not the same things.

Lust goes beyond the physical beauty towards desires of sexual pleasure, for that sake alone. It is said that lust is an extension of the ego, onto the other person. It wants what the person for self-gratification, which is the opposite of love.

The physical attraction of a man towards a beautiful woman, is a biological pre-set, which can only be controlled, not turned off and on like a light-switch.
