I just wanted to let you know, Crumpy, when I do a quote of your OP in order to respond, I notice that in the original – there is a reference in brackets to Luke 24:44 – but it doesn’t show up on the screen in my browser in your original post.

So I can’t actually see the quote’s text – and you have a mismatched title; I assume you mean Luke 27:44?

There are so many references to Christ in the OT that a commentary normally would not give all of them, but only some examples. Even the New Testament gives numerous examples by quoting the Old Testament showing its fulfillment in Christ. The only way that you would ever find all of them is to find a work that focuses only on those Old Testament passages that refer to Christ, which are very many.

I mistakenly typed Luke 27:44 which is an invalid reference. The quote I wanted was Luke 24:44

which is

44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

In regard to the other post: I’m trying to see if any Commentary has explained what Jesus said in this verse.

What are all those “things” that needed to be fulfilled in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the psalms?

In the OP, there appears a link to the Haydock Commentary, which I have not previously explored.

But, following that link, I went to the commentary on Genesis 1:1. It expounds on the use of the plural Elohim that is interpreted as a Trinitarian reference. So, here is one potential citation or reference to Jesus in “the law of Moses.”

So, this is what I am asking, is there an exhaustive compilation of all the references to Jesus that occur in the OT, including what somebody said above, OT citations in the NT?

Sure, I can understand that there are potentially many, so that any Commentary might not list them all. But, I’m looking for the book which DOES list them all, literal and symbolic and/or alleghorical.

If you’re starting with the NT and finding all direct quotes to every little allusion from the OT (not just quotes and allusions about Christ) then
‘Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament’
is a way to go IMO (I read it…pretty exhaustive commentary)

The “things” mentioned are the prophecies about the coming Messiah. Just a few off the top of my head would be Genesis 3 (He shall crush your head). God’s promise to Abraham the nations would be bless through Him. Moses declaring God would send a prophet like himself. The Davidic Covenant (A King who will reign forever). Psalm 21. Psalm 110. Psalm 2. Isaiah 53. Isaiah prophesies about Immanuel. Daniel prophesies about the Son of Man and the Ancient of Days as well as the seventy weeks.

There are lots more but these are the ones that jumped to mind with out a lot of cross referencing. Also the Gospels are full of quotations of SCripture such as, “He did this so that what… would be fulfilled” All of these speak of fulfilled prophecy concerning Christ.

Look them up they are very helpful and edifying.
