I was wondering: since Advent is of a penitential character, and since kneeling in prayer is characteristic of penitential prayer, is it “ok” to pray kneeling during Advent (out of Mass, I mean)? Of course I know private practices of prayer are “free” as to what pertains to gestures, but some gestures are more appropriate than others for certain prayers.

You certainly may kneel if you want to.

I try to kneel as often as I can. Regretfully, the old knees can only handle so much. But I try.

In fact years ago my mother said she was proud of me because I was so “trying” ???

I’m a year round kneeler! I don’t think there is ever a wrong time to humble ourselves before the Lord.

absolutely.

two reference facts:

in the EF, we kneel for the collect and postcommunion on penitential days – this includes ferias of **Advent **and Lent, as well as all Ember Days, requiem masses, etc.

the Angelus, according to some guides, should be said kneeling always (except maybe on Sundays), and the Regina Caeli (for Eastertime) should be said standing.

So I say go for it, kneel. I do.
