Advent Pledge....please read and respond

Ok, everyone, as I have just returned from my last self-imposed exile, I was shocked at some of the behavior on here. This is my favorite place to post and discuss things, and I do not want people’s bad behavior to change that. I am asking everyone on here, from today until the end of the Christmas season, to promise that they will do the following things:

1. Be charitable to others. Respond to them as you would if you were face to face. Treat them with the same grace you want to be treated with.
2. Avoid harsh or inflammatory comments. Please do not use this site as a way to vent your anger towards anyone or any faith.
3. Do not forget that we are all sinners and we are all fighting our own battles.
4. Do not call people names such as dumb, unable to think, or anything like that. People called Thomas Aquinas the Dumb Ox. And we do not know any of their names today.
5. Forgive any transgressions of others on here even if they do not ask for it. Pray for those who anger you.

I promise to do these things as I prepair for CHristmas. Even if you are not Christain, will you pledge to do the same?

Considering all you’ve asked of us is to keep the forum’s rules, whether we are Christians or not, what you ask should be a no-brainer.

As to being harsh–one person’s idea of harsh isn’t the same as another’s. Simply telling the truth can be read as harsh if the other person is disposed to take it that way. So, I think we need to remember to read others posts assuming goodwill unless it is obvious they mean to be mean. That’s my only caveat.

You are correct about being harsh. However, if a third person reads it as such, it may actually be harsh.

True, as long as the third person doesn’t have an agenda. It can get complicated. But assuming goodwill usually is the best way to go, isn’t it?
