Advent Wreath

I am a Catholic revert. Gone for a very long time. I was in the Methodist church for quite a few years and before Sunday service they would always do prayers and readings and then they would light the Advent wreath. It was always a big deal around the wreath. So when I returned to the Catholic church I didn’t see all that happening around the wreath. I mean it is there. I It is blessed at the beginning of Advent and it is lit but it isn’t made a big deal of like I saw in the Methodist church. Last night I was told that the Advent wreath was started by Lutherans long ago and picked up by Catholics in the 1930’s. I used to wonder why we didn’t have an advent wreath when growing up but I guess that might be why. I am sure my parents never had one in the 30’s so why pass it on.

Do you all have advent wreaths in your home? :confused:

This is an explanation of a Jesse tree; I send it because when our kids were younger, we would light our advent wreath candle(s) and do the Jesse Tree reading each evening.

We do those two things as well. The kids love lighting the candles and hanging the ornaments. They seem to be learning the Bible stories too.
 
**Isn’t it interesting, that it might be made more of in some Protestant homes than in Catholics, who honor Our Lady? Although I don’t always have an Advent Wreath in my home, I am more aware now after my conversion, of the particular graces and meaning of The Blessed Virgin being a tabernacle for Our Lord!

You’re good to remind us to think about having one in the home, as those who have young children could make this a wonderful time of talking to them about Our Lady’s “Yes” to God in welcoming Christ within her, and what this means to us in our own lives.
