I am asking this because of another thread that got me wondering. Is the Advent wreath used or even just set up in parishes that use the EF Mass?

At my parish the candles on the Advent Wreath are not lit for the Traditional Masses. The reason is that those candles are not blessed nor set aside for liturgical use in the EF TLM and thus are not neccesary for the celebration of Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

We do not have any EF-only parishes around here. I can’t tell you if every parish has an advent wreath, but the closest parish that celebrates the EF does. I don’t know if they light the candles for that Mass though (we haven’t been there for Sunday Mass this season).

They are in my parish. There is no particular use or ceremony involving the wreath. The appropriate candles are lit after the altar candles are lit before Mass and extinguished before the altar candles.

At our parish, they put the Advent wreath out of sight during the TLM and wheel it back out afterwards for the next Mass (OF). I didn’t even know we had one until I stayed last enough after Mass one day.

Just to head things off at the pass if this thread is tending this way: there’s nothing wrong or contradictory to any rubrics to have an advent wreath with candles in your sanctuary even if all you celebrate is the EF.

That wasn’t the purpose of my asking. In another thread they were talking about when Advent wreaths began to appear in Catholic masses and it just got me to wondering if Advent wreaths were found in the EF, not because of rubrics but of tradition. I don’t have an EF celebrated anywhere near where I live so I thought I would ask.

Sorry - didn’t mean to offend! I thought of you today (even though I don’t actually know you) when I was at mass at my EF parish and saw the Advent Wreath! 😃

No need to be sorry. I wasn’t offended. I just didn’t want the post to be misunderstood. Advent wreaths are a great way to prepare for Christmas. 🙂
