There is a certain special thing about the custom of the Advent Wreath. An early winter touch of beauty and symbolism.

I have noticed some unusual manifestations of this custom in the past couple of years in churches locally. One now suspends the greenery over the rear part of the nave, and places a bank of candles more-or-less under the wreath “floating” above. This week another parish installed four small wreathes on stands at the corners of the sactuary, each with its own candle. A group of eight laypeople joined in the entrance procession and lit the first candle…certainly bringing inclusivity to new heights.

I kinda miss having one wreath with four candles (one pink) somewhere near the altar. Are the innovations mentioned above being replicated elsewhere?

If it’s a “Happy Catholic” community, they can always come up with something better than perfect.

We have a regular wreath suspended over our baptismal font directly as you enter the main. It’s beautiful.

Our wonderful pastor also blessed our wreaths last Sunday. One lady had volunteered to make wreaths to sell for our building fund. I can’t even begin to tell you how beautiful they are. Mine is a green wreath with purple vines and pink roses. I am very blessed to get one, they went fast!
