Dear All,

I have been struggling in my marriage for about a year now and I am terrified that myself or my wife will run out of strength to keep patching it up. I would like to go on a pilgrimage by myself (my wife lapsed from the faith after we married) and pray to be a better husband.

Can anyone suggest a pilgrimage for husbands/marriages? or perhaps a church dedicated to a saint who is known for helping marriages?

How long a pilgrimage? I would not suggest that, actually. How about you two go to Retrouvaille instead? I think you need to work on this together, not separately. I know my husband brought up walking the Camino de Santiago by himself and I found it to be threatening to our marriage that he would just plan 6 weeks alone on a trail in France and Spain. That was when we were having a lot of problems and I thought he might want to divorce.

You can get a spiritual director and get prayer guidance that way.

Pray to the Holy Family for strength.

My first thought was St. Joseph. If you are in North America and looking for something a bit more local, a place to make a pilgrimage to might be St. Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal, in Montreal.

Unfortunately the 1950s hit the interior of the basilica like a tornado, but other than that it’s a good place.
