Hey everyone! I have a friend who I met at a retreat a few years ago. We’ve only met twice since the retreat, yet she loves to talk to me at weekends on the phone. She used to be really devoutly Catholic, but over the past year or so, she’s left the Church, become Wiccan, discovered she’s a vampire and a lesbian (or possibly bisexual). She believes that being open-minded is a great thing and so do I…to a point. She has a load of friends with different beliefs, some of whom share the same beliefs as she. I think she was hanging out with most of them before her changes.
I’m going to sound really horrible now and confess that I often get quite cross (even angry) when she texts to ask if we can talk. The poor girl has a lot of problems, particularly with her family, and she talks about these frequently (though not as much as of late). I find it difficult to shoulder her sorrows and frustrations with her and I’ve even introduced her to another friend of mine to try and lessen the calls. I feel more like a counsellor than a friend.
What I find worse is the fact that she has changed so much and I am worried for her soul. I’ve tried to explain myself a little (without saying outright that I am extremely dissappointed and also worried that she has left the faith or that I believe that practicing magic, vampirism or having lesbian relationships is wrong or disordered). I pray for her nearly every day.
What should I do?
God bless. (I feel rather hypocritical saying that now.
