I’m visiting Chicago for a few days and I would like to attend a daily mass at St Thomas, the Cathedral of the Syro-Malabar eparchy there. The only problem (for me) is that Mass seems to be in Malayalam, which I do not speak. Are there any Syro-Malabrians here who can give some advice on what to expect, the structure of the liturgy, and imagery/symbolism/other unique aspects of the Syro-Malabar rite that I should pay special attention to? I am familiar with the Byzantine rite, so if there are any striking similarities/differences from that rite to note, that would also help me greatly.

I plan to introduce myself to the priest beforehand, and I presume it will be obvious that I am not a Syro-Malabar Catholic, but I would still like to participate as much as possible in the liturgy. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
