Hi you guys, I just wanted to ask for some advice on how I can help out my aunt. I don’t really know this for sure, but I have a strong feeling that she’s about to commit fornication, coming from what I heard from my sibling, and I have no clue on how to approach this. I was thinking of texting her to remind her that that would be a mortal sin, but it might just make her angry and push her more deeper into sin. So yeah, I would really appreciate if you guys just throw in some ideas.

~ Thanks in Advance & God Bless.

Certainly you must pray faithfully for your aunt.

You don’t know her state of mind or her present beliefs and whether or not she still truly has retained faith in the truths taught by the Catholic Church. If she hasn’t then anything you say will be received as irrelevant and as offensive interference.

At present you are considering whether you will act on second hand information.
To text her seems could come across as a cold and self-righteous move.
If she was raised as Catholic/Christian she should be aware of God’s law.
She may simply not care about what may now seem irrelevant to her.
Only God can give the graces now or at a time when your aunt is ready.

If you feel you must act you could speak with your aunt’s sibling, your mother/father, who are better able to speak to their sibling if they feel this would be beneficial.
The sibling would have a better understanding of your aunt’s nature and approachability, and whether or not it would be useful or harmful to intervene.
However, you are more likely to alienate and antagonize your aunt that to achieve good results by confronting her’

May God bless your aunt and each family member.

I can tell you that as an aunt, if one of my nieces called to try to prevent me from having sex, I would be extremely alarmed and go right to my brother. The only impact on my behavior that it would have would be to keep a good eye out for my niece.

But, I am an adult, and all of my nieces are still minor children. If you aren’t a minor or your aunt isn’t an adult, the dynamic might be different.

As an aunt, I feel the same way. My nieces and nephews are all adults and married now, and they all have fallen into that sin prior to marriage. When the girls were young, my sister and I did counsel them not to, although what we said was more along the lines of wait til marriage, not you will be committing sin. One of them told me she definitely was going to wait and I believe she did for a very long time.

We are all sinners. We all fall short. But, I can tell you are worried.

What I would do in your place, yearningfortruth, is avoid texting or emailing and talk with her either in person or over the phone. Do not tell her what your heard (which was gossip and itself a sin). Tell her how much she means to you and how you look up to her as an example. Take as much time as you can talking. Mention something that she did that lead you by a good example or how she taught you something, encouraged you. Then drop a very subtle hint to say that you hope that you can always look up to her and follow her example and that you love her and would never want to see her hurt. This is the truth without prying or insulting, and is loving.

What she decides to do is a choice she will make on her own and is between her and God.

If your aunt is actually very close in age to you, you could approach her as a friend and simply say you are worried about her and see if she opens up. But do stay away from saying you will be sinning.

The best thing to do is mind your own business. Now if you are talking to her and she tells you something like that then tell her what you think.

Yep. Let it be, it’s really not any of your business. You can pray for her, but not only is it inappropriate for you to address it, it’s also presumptuous to assume you know what she is or is not doing.

If you say anything to her be prepared for her to tell you to mind your own business and that shes an adult…she may then tell your parents that you have been prying into her personal life causing them to get mad at you…at the end of the day if she is going to have sex you cant stop her…

If you are close to your parents or grandparents then maybe get them to talk to her…but it certainly isnt your place to have that kind of conversation with her

  1. Pray.
  2. People who have premartial sex are usually sex will fulfill something that’s missing in their life.
Your heart is in the right place, but it’s really not up to you to call her out on her behavior.
