I been wanting to talk to one of my friends who is 17 about her views on relationship. My friend was dating a guy for two years and he been wanting to have sex with her but he said he would wait till she was ready. She always said she wanted to wait till marriage. Her boyfriend ended up getting drunk and sleeping with another girl. They broke up for a week and got back together and she decided to sleep with him because she thought that was the only way to keep him. He ended up breaking up with her and I could tell she felt that’s all he wanted from her but she still liked him a lot and hoped they would get back together. She ended up sleeping with a guy she barely knows because she thought it would make him jealous. I been wanting to talk to her about her worth and having a God centered relationship. I didn’t know the right way to go about this so I don’t sound like I’m making her feel terrible for all her past decisions. I want to help her learn about God centered relationships and the dignity of her body. Thanks for your help!

I don’t know how to approach this, but I do want to say I admire your desire to be charitable and considerate of her feelings

If your friend is Catholic, she needs to go to confession and then maybe a counselor on why she has chosen a path of self destruction. Typically once someone “gives” away their virginity, it becomes too easy to loss their self respect and then repeat the sin. She should have been encouraged to brake up with the first guy when he started to pressure her for sex. I’m not sure where the parents are in all of this. Keep praying for her.

Jason Evert has some really good books on chastity, along with his wife. Here is one.(If You Really Loved Me)
He also talks about starting over; his wife lost her virginity but started over again and found a wonderful relationship. It’s never too late to ask for forgiveness and start over.
Begin by telling your friend that God loves her and wants better for her than guys who just want to use her.
God bless you for your concern.
