Hi:
Some parents from our local Catholic school wanted to have a fundraiser because they plan to walk in the Breast Cancer Three-Day walk. When the note came home about this, I politely told them and the school that I could not participate because the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which sponsors the walk, gives financial support to Planned Parenthood. Thank heavens, the administration listened and the funds will go elsewhere to a charity that has no ties to Planned Parenthood as far as we can tell.
Well, of course, the parents are upset with me because they had counted on the school support to make whatever quota they are required to give. I appreciate their making the effort to fight breast cancer but I felt that a Catholic school had no busines supporting it.
When I approached one of the parents to extend the olive branch, I was told that I “don’t have all my facts.” I could not get into a discussion with the parent right then about it, but any clue as to what facts there could be to mitigate this?
I think she may have been alluding to a statement by Komen that all funds it gives to PP are to be used only for breast cancer screening and research and that must be documented. IMHO, that’s all very well and good but accountants can make numbers say whatever they want. Giving money to PP’s breast cancer research simply frees up its other resources to its chief business, which as the name implies is abortion, contraceptives etc.
Anyone have any insights to offer on this. Can anyone give any links that I can study? If I’m wrong I’d be willing to apologize and take my lumps. However, if I’m right, I’d like to be able to show these parents something from a credible source. (One of the parents is an MD.)
By God’s grace, so far this has been a civil disagreement. Please pray that it remain so.
Thank you in advance. May God bless you all.
