Advice needed on Chinese Mass

I know the feelings that you are going through right now. In saying that, I can only share my experience. Being there two weeks away from Mass was hard. But in the whole spectrum of things, I knew I was there on His mission (adoption). In that time, I saw people who had nothing and were happy to have it. I watched twelve girls whose birth mothers chose life for them. Because of this, these twelve girls have families and a future. I have watched my daughter go from a withdrawn little girl who kept her eyes downcast for weeks after we came home-- She was malnourished and underdeveloped–to now, where she has evolved into a healthy child who laughs and runs and plays with her brother and sisters in the backyard. She is my hero and she isn’t even old enough to go to school yet.
If I had to go without the Mass for two weeks again in order to gain this experience, I would do it without blinking. I learned more about Jesus by walking among the poorest of any poor I have witnessed in these two weeks than I had an entire life time.
I do not know what your circumstance is and do not need to. But maybe focus on what you can gain rather than what you are missing. It is two weeks out of your life.
Talking to your priest isn’t a bad idea either.
 
Thank you for all this help. It is definitely making a difference. It has also helped me to pray about it in a little different way, and the image I got in prayer was of Elijah being fed by the Ravens, and that the Lord won’t let me starve to death…that nothing can snatch me out of His Hand, and that He will have spiritual experiences for me to grow from, so at this point I am leaning toward going. And I want to seek out a priest of Chinese background in the US who can also speak with me helpfully. Thank you all. I am Hopefull
 
but is the Sacred Heart Cathedral considered to be in communion with Rome? And how do priests and bishops there celebrate Mass?

I also read in an article translated in Chinese that our Pope has announced that most Patriotic bishops are fine with Vatican.

If I travel to China now, I would just attend the Patriotic Church since that would be the only source. I cannot imagine without attending Mass. Just my 2 cents.
 
I was under impressions untill a few days ago that I could attend Mass inChina but then my wife (who is a chinese, non-catholic christian I engaged to before my Conversion) told me actually it will be unsafe to do so, endangering her family and the faithful there- We are to depart a week today and my family there is waiting on our promises! What is a dispendation?!
I metioned my going to a couple of Friars, but none mentioned that-.
Aparaently, in my wife’s home town, which is the pure communist, I should hide my cross and all religous artefacts, including my faith, or I’ll be in trouble. Wish she’d told me b4!

All I can say is according to Vatican and Pope, most Patriotic churches in China have been legitimized.

Like I mentioned in my post # 5 in this thread, for the case of my best friend, who was called for a mission in China, what do you expect her to do if she doesn’t attend Patriotic church? Will she never ever attend Mass and receive Communion as long as she is in China for her mission? This friend has been in China for several years by now. She goes to Sunday Mass every week.
 
What I worry about MOST OF ALL is going to a Mass that is not valid, and receiving and worshipping bread instead of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Even if “most” are legitimized, how can I know about the one near my hotel? How can I make sure that I am receiving a true Eucharist?

The Bishops of the CPA are validly, but illicitly, ordained. So are their priests. Therefore, the Masses in the CPA are valid. But the CPA is not in communion with the Holy See, and so is formally in schism.

That means you cannot licitly attend their Masses even if they are valid. And since it’s neither wise nor safe to seek out the underground Church in communion with the Pope, the Mass obligation in China can be dispensed from.
 
I heard on EWTN that the Pope is about to put out a pronouncement on China “around Pentecost.” I hope to hear soon what he said, and if it applies to this particular post.
