Ok Guys, please help me out with this.

Basically, i am applying to return back to college. And i have trust in Jesus to guide my path during this difficult step in my life. I prayed over it and i did a novena for it a well. Then my father comes along and tells me to get a second option, just in case it didn’t work out as planned :). I refused totally because trust Jesus and with Jesus i dont need a backup plan.

My truth is this, when i’ll be on my death bed, i will give my life to Jesus and if i cant trust him to guide me with my future, how will i be able to trust him with my life(on my death bed)?

My point is this, do i need a back up plan? I feel like if i do, i will not be trusting the Lord? Will i be disobeying my dad if i trust the Lord?

Please advice me on what to do?

NB: Sorry for rambling 🙂

Is your father suggesting you have a back-up career plan besides going back to college?

It is hard to comment without knowing your situation in greater detail.

Whether the back-up plan he suggested is a job, or a second choice of college, what your father is suggesting is simply common sense.

Your dad loves you and is trying to be a good father to you. Things don’t always work out how we think they will.

According to this logic, savings accounts are immoral. Because doesn’t saving money incase of disaster imply lack of trust in God? See how you can take this kind of thinking too far?

Making poor choices and then counting on God to bail you out is not faith. Jesus reminded us during his sojourn in the desert that the Scriptures say we are not to test God. It seems to me that placing all your eggs in one basket, and then telling God, “It’s up to you to fix it if this doesn’t work,” might be testing God. Especially if you had the capacity to make some provision for yourself incase of failure.

Let your dad be a good dad. Take his advice. He’s seen a lot more of life than you have, and has probably paid the consequences of failure a few times too. He is trying to help you with the wisdom and experience he has gained.

A back up plan is always a good idea. It seems ( with my life anyway ) that nothing went according to plan. You can always trust god but don’t be surprised if the two of you come up with different ideas. I hope everything works out for you. God bless

God expects you to use the brains He gave you, not just sit back and wait for Him to do everything. You need to be realistic about your situation. Is your GPA perfect? How about your SAT or ACT/other entrance exam scores? If you have any reason to believe, based on your capabilities and knowledge of the school’s acceptance trends, that you might not get in, you should apply somewhere else just in case. Listen to your dad, he knows what he is talking about.

Thanks for all your compassionate answers. I am at a point in my life where i have to trust the Lord to guide me. I had to drop out of college because i couldn’t afford it and i ran out of money. I had to go through a lot and thanks to God i have made it this far. I am from a country where water, electricity and even the basics of life is a luxury.
Before i asked for this advice, i always knew some people will say stuff like “trusting God should not be an excuse for being lazy” but how wrong they are.
Thanks for Jesus, I have my admission letter to Humber College in Canada 🙂 YAY!!! against all odds. All i need now is my study permit to Canada. I believe in miracles and with Christ i dont need a back up plan. Amazing how things work eh?

Please pray for me to get my Canadian study. Thanks for all you thoughtful answers.

Manny-

If you make up your mind and then pray about it, there is no room for God. We need to pray before we make up our mind. And God leading you to college is far different than him leading you to heaven when you die.

Have fun at school!

Thank for your answer. I never made up my mind before praying. I asked for his paternal help, to guide me into making a good choice. I also understand the him leading me to college is different from heaven we have to start trusting each other some where isnt it?
Have you read THE WAY BY SAINT JOSE MARIA ESCRIVA ? if you haven’t i highly recommend that you do.
