Advice on continuing Chldrens faith formation

Hello,
I am seeking advice on continuing my children’s faith formation. I am a civilly divorced father of five children, ages 15,13, 9, 8 and 8. My children reside with their mother 9 hours away in another state, and they have not continued their faith formation in the Catholic Church. To date, they were all baptized in the Catholic Church,but only the older two received the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist.

When the children are with me on all school breaks and the summer break, we attend mass together. The younger three are ready for the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist, but their mother does not take them to Mass nor has she enrolled them in any parish religious education class. Would it be satisfactory to “home school” the children on the meaning of the sacraments and then allow them to attend reconciliation and fully participate in receiving the host at a mass? I am sorry that your situation has become so difficult when it comes to faith formation. I suggest you talk to your pastor about your situation, because when and how they begin Reconciliation and Eucharist will involve him. Your local pastor and his DRE may have materials you can use.

Definitely home school them, and talk to the pastor and DRE to get support. God bless your efforts.

Thank you for the (name removed by moderator)ut and support! While the situation with my family is challenging, my faith and my children’s faith will be much stronger for it all. I pray that their mother’s will too one day. Keep her in your prayers!

God bless you, OP. I am so sorry for this weight on your soul. I agree with HD - if you can make moving closer happen, do that and then live your faith. If that cannot happen, then I think a homeschool program with direction from your priest is an excellent path.

I will keep you in my prayers. Your original post broke my heart a little, but I so appreciate and respect your desire to help form your children’s faith.
