Advice on my blog

Hello, I have this little problem that I am not able to solve easily. I am 16, but since I turned to catholicism, I became kind of active in evangelization, thanks to a priest that gives a chance to young people to build themselves and others in faith.

Me and my friend were thinking about how could we spread the Gospel to others of our age. We are from Slovakia and since many people cannot translate from English that good, there are just few good sources of Evangelization on the internet in our language.

So we started a blog and tried to write articles about important parts of our faith, we started with the most basic themes: Gods Love, Sin, Redemption in Christ, Church, Bible, etc. And also with some inspirational articles and with some “pop” themes like contraception, abortions, homosexuality.

The problem is, that just a very little number of pople visits the blog and this one visitor is… well, quite persuasive in telling us, that our work is useless and even contraproductive. And sometimes I find myself understanding his point.

We asked an advice from two priests, one of them is the one that brought us both to catholicism. They think that this blog is a good idea. Also few other catholics that we know.

I would like your opinion if it is reasonable to continue with the blog… We are both kinda lost in this… sometimes we feel the need to continue, sometimes we do not see the point in it.

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by all of the great information I’ve gotten over the last year. I’ve often wonderfed if I should find a way to consolidate it. I think a 'blog would be a great opportunity for you to learn and grow and help others. 🙂
 
Since I have not read your blog it is not possible to discuss the worthiness of the content,but I can tell you that I admire your intent. I will pray that God’s plan for you and this blog become clear to you. God bless you.

Well, since it is in Slovak language, not many from the forums would be able to read it. But if anyone wants to ask for some closer info, go ahead.

Me and my friend also wanted to invite more people to work on this blog. But we are not sure if it would be a good move until we decide if we want to continue with it.
 
To give a summery of a well known quote from Mother Teresa: “Do it anyway!”

Just keep it up. Maybe put posters up somewhere with a link to the blog or find other ways of getting the word out there so you can get The Word out there (bad pun, I know…). Just find ways to advertise your blog for little to no money, or if you are willing to spend more money then do so that way.

No such effort is useless! Please do not let this deter you!

New blogs always take a while to gain traction.

A couple of thoughts:

You are young, and your blog should appeal to the young. You are likely at that blessed age where you need to make decisions on your own, and will listen to a peer before you would listen to a parent or another adult, even a priest. Your blog has great potential in that regard.

Have the priests who guide you be your sponsors. Ask them to announce your blog in Sunday bulletins and help you promote it throughout your diocese. You may even find your local bishop to be a supporter!

Don’t worry about language - appeal to Slovakians in Slovak. Hovorte Slovenčiny do Slovákmi (I hope I got that right - my Slovak is very weak, despite my heritage).

You can always switch to English later, or rely on embedded translators in your blog to help. Google Translator usually does a pretty good job with modern, formal Slovakian usage - just keep the “slang” / idioms to a minimum.

I agree.

I would just point out that it takes time to grow a blog’s audience. You can’t expect to just post something and have thousands and thousands of people come visit overnight.

The key is to keep at it and market yourself well. If there are other Catholic blogs in your language, visit them and make comments often. Don’t be overt by posting things like “Come visit my blog!” People usually ignore such self-promoting. But it you regularly contribute meaningfully to the conversation, people will want to click on your user name (which can usually be linked to your blog) to hear more of what you have to say.

You might also start a “Blog roll” with links to other similar blogs. Then you can ask those people you link to if they would mind returning the favor.
