I am ready to take the next step and contact my local catholic church. Could someone give me som tips on how to write an email? I want to let them know I am interested and want to learn more about the faith and the teachings.
I am a shy person and not very good at commicating things. I just want to get things going as smoothly as I can for myself and for the church. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

From the information you gave, a short email like the one below is probably all you need to write.

Dear RCIA leader:

I am interested to know more about Catholicism. Please let me know when the next classes start.

Thank you,

(Your name)

What is an RCIA leader?

What is an RCIA leader?
Really?

An RCIA leader is the person who leads RCIA classes. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It’s the class one (normally) participates in before becoming Catholic.

I perfer the phone. You can express yourself much better by talking to a live person and they will be able to help you on the spot. Also in talking some questions may come to mind that you will want to ask. It is a better and more direct approach.

Yippie! 👍 Welcome home!

And please do take the advice about RCIA! It is a wonderful thing. I went through it back in 95 to 96! I’ll pray for you!

Peace,

Gail

Yes, I immediately thought about contacting by phone; however, Briarpatch said he/she is shy, so an email will work.

Really. I left the Catholic church after i was confirmed.

So, would an adult have to take some kind of Catechism class prior to enrolling in RCIA?

address your message to a person, not to a parish.
if you wish to assist with liturgy in some way address it to the priest, if you wish to assist with religious education, mail the DRE. If you want to learn more about the Catholic faith, address the pastor. call beforehand or get a bulletin to get names. give good contact information. Oddly enough in many parishes not all staff people have email there (I don’t) so don’t be surprised if it takes a while, much longer than a simple phone call, to get a reply.

Hey soc, God put you on the fast track? He did me too. 😃

Being confirmed, technically, all you need to do is go to confession and that’s it.

However, if you are looking for a basic sort of catechism class, I recommend sitting in on RCIA. Call the parish you want to call your home and tell them your background and that you would like to sit in on RCIA. 👍

Same here (shy), in person, really.

I found the parish website, which lists the names and phone numbers. I called the number for RCIA, got an answering machine, left a message, never got a call back. And I was too shy to try again.

But, I had been going to Mass at that parish, and eventually, the information for RCIA showed up in the parish bulletin, with a different phone number. So, I called that number, which was published wrong in the bulleting, wrong number! So, I just showed up at the time/place the parish bulletin indicated, which turns out, is perfectly ok.

I kept looking for more information on RCIA because I had no idea what in the word it was, what do you do, what, what what? I found another RCIA program at another local parish, which was announced on their parish blog (who knew?).

I checked them both out. 😃 One was Tues night and one was Thurs night. THEN, I met someone here, at the CAF forum, who I met for lunch and she offered to be my RCIA sponsor, at the parish that was on Thursday night. I decided to go with the one that was Thurs night.

Moral of the story, don’t give up if you don’t get a reply to email or phone, it’s nothing personal.

Hmmm I guess I would say something like:

Dear Father,

I WANT IN!

In Christ… Me

😃

:rotfl: Good one! But on the serious side, an email would work, but only if you know the addy for the person you want to contact. If there isn’t an email for anyone there, consider calling them, going in person or writing them a snail mail letter. In the latter, simply have it addressed to the parish. Also ask any question you have.

I went through the RCIA in 96-97. So, a little over 11 years. It’s hard to believe I’ve been here that long. The RCIA is really just the beginning. It’s kind of like going to kindergarten. You learn about it, but there is so much more out there.
