Advice please!

Hello,
I am asking you today for a bit of advice on what I should do.
Here is the situation:
I am a part of a team that practices after school on a town park field. Today, I noticed that there was a sign which said “Permit needed for groups or teams” or something like that. However, I doubt that the captains of the team (there is no coach) have a permit to use this field. It is a rather relaxed team (it is only Ultimate Frisbee) and this year, to my knowledge, we have not really had any conflicts with other people wanting to use the space that we were using, as there is plenty of space there, and I have not seen any other team of any kind there.
So, should I:
(1) Keeping practicing and playing on the team regardless of the sign.
(2) Stop playing on the team.
(3) Take it upon myself to get the permit/permission required to legally use the fields.
If I chose this option, should I continue practicing while attaining the permission, or not practice until I get the permit?

I recommend that you contact the park management that put up the sign and find out what the requirements are. At that time, advise them of the nature of the team you are a part of and determine if the sign applies to your team, “Ultimate Frisbee”. If you need a permit, then I would get your team together and let them know what you found out.

The bottom line is: If a permit is required - get it. Do the right thing. Remember if the permit is to costly you may be able to find other places that do require a permit, like a school play ground.

I suppose getting the permit would be the right thing to do, but I do not know how I would go about doing that because I am a younger member of the team. I also do not think that I have enough say/power/authority to change where we practice. Thanks you and God Bless!

If you call, and you need a permit, they will find you to tell you to get a permit.

Doing the right thing is what is important. I think you know that or you would not have posted the OP. When you contact the park to find out about the permit they will tell you how to go about it. If not sure ask your parents.

Sometimes it is hard to do the right thing, especially with the peer pressure that is out there.

Personally, I think you are being scrupulous.

First, you need to go and actually READ the sign. You yourself said you don’t even know what it is referring to.

It is likely referring to using the facilities for an organized sports league. Permits allow the partk to regulate use of the field by preventing schedling conflicts and insuring proper liability waivers are filled out, etc.

If it is a public park it is unlikely that a group of people throwing a frisbee around when no one else is using the field needs a permit, even if you call yourself a “team”.

But, again, simply READ the sign in full and if you still believe it is an issue call the parks department and ask them.

Thank you for the response! I agree with you in that it does seem a bit unneeded that a dozen kids playing/practicing Frisbee in an open park would need a permit. Also, I may have been unclear in the first post, but I did read the sign in full. It may have seemed like I was uncertain about what it said when I said “or something like that”, but I put that there just because I did not remember the exact wording of the sign.
