You did nothing deceptive and the store allowed you to return the items under their return policy, so I cannot imagine that there is anything wrong with what you did. If the store had a problem with it, they would adjust their return policy to state that “All pharmacy sales are final.”

They may have “lost” $43 on you, but I doubt very much they’re losing out overall. Having a liberal, no-hassle return policy is something that attracts consumers and encourages them to lower their threshhold of what will encourage them to buy something (since they figure they can always return it later if they change their mind). Stores wouldn’t have such a policy if it didn’t bring in more money than it cost them.

I wouldn’t worry about it.
Thank you! I’m feeling a bit better about it now. I did learn something. And, I’m hoping the store didn’t actually lose $43, but a much smaller amount.

I think the “All pharmacy sales are final” sign is a great idea. If you don’t mind, maybe I will mention that at the pharmacy the next time I am there if it is okay with you?

Take the refund and put it in the poor box at your church. If you are convinced you are some how guilty of something, take it to the Lord, thru the sacrament of reconciliation, for forgiveness (if He deems forgiveness is necessary), or at least for spirtual healing (if you have harmed youself through your feeling of guilt).

“Let God and Let Go”

He loves you, if you did wrong (and I have no idea if you did or didn’t…that’s God’s call), he will forgive you and will heal you. If you did no wrong, you still have shown how much you love God by your concern and by coming to Him for His for his divine grace.

Thank you, excellent idea! God knows what is in my mind and heart and He will lead me to peace. In fact, I am feeling much better with the help of you wonderful folks at CAF!

Of course she didn’t “do wrong” and certainly doesn’t need forgiveness; these were unused items and she had every right to return them. She had no way of knowing the pharmacy policy and did this in good faith.
I didn’t know the policy and I did do it in good faith. Now I know.🙂

All I was saying chatty, is that Reconciliation is more than for confession, its also for healing. So, if she did no wrong, but she can’t let go of the guilt, the sacrament is the way to go, for the peace she will find.

You or I, saying, “You’ve done nothing wrong,” holds no comparison to the grace that God offers through the sacramenets.

I will mention it to Father in my next confession, share my concern about waste and the cost to the store. I think the poor box is a nice idea to make up for that. Bless you for that idea!

I’m honestly surprised they even gave you a refund.
It was a routine return and refund with no hesitance on the clerk’s part. She mentioned the items were defected (defective, I guess) after the fact, even though they were obviously new and unopened. From that, I would guess that refunds are probably routinely given.

I don’t think you need to feel bad since you didn’t buy them with the purpose of returning them and didn’t know about the policy. I once returned a few food items we didn’t use at a party and wouldn’t have eaten ourselves. After I received the refund the lady at the service desk tossed the packages in the garbage. When I asked about it she said they’re no allowed to resell food or medicine that’s been returned. It made sense when I thought about it, I wouldn’t want to give my kids tylenol someone had in their house and could have done anything with. I felt bad about it so now try to be careful and not overbuy or buy medicines or cosmetics unless I’m sure I will use them. If I have things we don’t need or want I donate them.

It sounds like your experience was just like mine, except you returned food. And, after thinking about it, I too realized the policy makes perfect sense.

Now, we both know.🙂

The waste is partly the reason I feel bad, but the money is also partly the reason. The store took a small loss because of the refund. I know that is part of doing business, but I got my money back and they lost money through no fault of their own.
I don’t think this is true that it is “through no fault of their own”. They are the ones whose policy allows them to accept the return of unopened merchandise, but then to “necessarily defect” that same merchandise. I am sure there is a team of people in the company who spent a great deal of time weighing the particulars of that policy. They would not set up a policy that allows themselves to be on the losing end.

Sure. 🙂

Since is it is a large chain, I’m guessing you are probably correct. They probably do have a team of policy-makers who set policy. It also makes sense that those policy-makers would set policy that would not negatively effect the bottom line in the long run.
Thanks! 👍
