Advice?

Today I received my much wanted Monastic Diurnal (St. Michael’s Abbey) and it is bound upside down!! I laughed, because I am such a novice at this and if ever anything suits me, well… But I am trying to decide if I want ribbons sticking out at the top when I am trying to read. If the Diurnal was bound/printed at the monastery, I would not care, but it is printed in Slovokia. I got if from Amazon and it cost a lot. You experienced Breviary folk, would this bother you? I am trying to decide because I don’t want to use it too much if I’m going to return it.

All of my various prayer books have removable ribbons- they are secured on a “tag” inserted into the spine. As they wear out over the years, you can replace them.

Is this possible with yours? They can be tight in a new book.

These appear to be sewn in. The book appears extremely well bound and I love the quality of the paper. When I said it was bound in Slovokia, I did not mean any disrespect, but only that it was not bound at the Abbey (I didn’t really expect that it should be). Thank you for the suggestion.

Well, my “problem” is dealt with. I had e-mailed Amazon and they–without even looking at the book–offered me a 40% refund, which I accepted. I have prayed Compline from the Breviary already, so I kind of feel like it is mine, quirky as it is. Now off to Saints Will Arise to learn how to use it!!!

You can cut the ribbons off and buy a new set to place in the top of the binding.

Thanks. I had sort of thought of that. I may do it after awhile if the ribbons make it too distracting. I am so enjoying the English/Latin, though, that I’m not really noticing it as much as I thought I would.
