Hello Everyone, this is kinda embarrassing, but I just wanted someone’s opinion. I’m living in a new town, and I looked up an adoration chapel to go to nearby. It has a passcode, and I obtained the password from the office, and then tried going there one evening, but couldn’t remember the correct order, and decided to hang around until someone went in. It was later at night (9 or 10), and when someone was going in they told me they couldn’t let me in (though I told them 4/5 correct digits- couldn’t remember exact order or the last). Am I reading too much into this, but should I have perhaps left as soon as I couldn’t remember. Let me know!
 
For safety reasons, I would have declined to allow you to enter with me. And I would have felt really bad about it.
 
Not me. I would have let you in with me. Anyone who wants to pray is fine to join me, but I am a very trusting person. I don’t even lock my front door. I have not had any problems yet!🙂
 
I would have not let you in either unless I had seen you before in the chapel. It’s just too dangerous out there, especially at night, to take chances otherwise. Trust has nothing to do with it - it’s just plain common sense.
 
I’m sure the Lord blessed you for wanting to be there. After you learn the code, write it down on a small piece of paper and keep it in your wallet.

That’s what I do! I can’t get there too often, and don’t trust my memory. 🙂
 
Even though I’m generally a trusting person and I probably would have let you in, I have to agree with the majority here.

At that time of night, if they were entering alone and didn’t recognize you, I can certainly understand why they may have declined to let you in. There is generally a safety reason for the use of a code at night, and there’s always the chance that you weren’t telling the truth (not “you” specifically; rather, anyone asking for entrance). For all the other person knew, you could have learned those 4 numbers by hanging around for a while and watching other people as they entered the code.

Besides that, some people might simply feel they don’t have the authority to go against the policy and let you in without the code (at least not without permission from the parish office or priest or whomever has that authority).

So while I don’t think it was a bad idea on your part to wait and see if someone would let you in at that time of night when you couldn’t remember the code… I also don’t think it was a bad thing on their part that they wouldn’t let you in with them based on the information they had. 🤷

I’m a big guy so I wouldn’t had a problem but can understand why some of the females would be concerned.
 
I used to do night adoration too.

No, I wouldn’t have let you in…I just couldn’t.

A dark place where I’m alone with a stranger with a door that locks and help couldn’t get in without either a code or breaking the door down?

Adoration is a wonderful thing…that people need and need to experience but I think you could have made time to go the next day when the Church was opened to the public.

Maybe call the parish office and see if there is any room for night adorer fill-ins or ask when they start seeking out for new adorers to fill in regular hours.
 
Thank everyone. This makes perfect sense, especially since there were several homeless people in proximity to the chapel. Just used to small towns I guess. Thanks again!
