I was wondering if anyone else had noticed a creeping heresy of what might be called “aesthetic donatism” (the view that the Sacraments are only worthwhile if celebrated in a style acceptable to the individual) in their parishes? The classic example which I have encountered recently are the heated debates over proper liturgical music. To play or not to play…

No, I haven’t noticed it.

And you should be further aware that some people on this board (The Heresy Police) are of the firm opinion that laymen are incompetent to determine what heresy is or indeed who is a heretic.

The HP are coming to wag their fingers at you and call you uncharitable. :tsktsk:

Haven’t noticed (in my little corner of the world) What I do see is “liturgical donatism” Of course I guess that probably is about the same thing, Or at least closely related?

God Bless

I think Piers is quite accurate in his description of the phenomenon. see related thread on whether we can absolve ourselves of our Sunday Mass obligation if in our personal judgement, the priest is heretical.
