I was just asked to help someone get this insurance, but I don’t know where to start.

I don’t know if this information is needed, but the person I’m checking for is…

59 years old. Will be 60 in 2014.
He is a teamster retiree without health insurance, but does have a pension.
He drives a school bus, but without benefits.
In the summer he cuts grass.

Since his retirement he has always bought his own health insurance, for him and his adult son who is in college. He states he was told that he should have bought the AFC insurance. He asked me how to do it. I have no clue, but I know the people here are very informed, so I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction.

Simply go to www.healthcare.gov and click to sign up for a plan outside of the marketplace sine you’re too late for open enrollment. He could still enroll if he qualifies for a special circumstance. Good luck!

Thank you. I was just over looking. I saw those ‘special’ circumstance things.

Sounds like just changing your mind, or being curious about getting a better price, isn’t really a special circumstance.😦

There are moral alternatives to the ACA plans called healthshares (non-insurance but ACA qualified). The problem with ACA plans is that they fund procedures we do not approve of, including elective sterilizations of minors & adults, contraceptives, and abortions. Some do not cover abortions, but you will not know until you sign on the dotted line and receive your tax statement that tells you whether a portion of your premium is going to abortions.

Look up Medishare. It is a christian health coop which is very good. It has been mentioned on CA Radio quite a bit.

Sounds almost like a shell game. All the money goes into one pot. some fund abortion, some don’t.

If I were in his shoes, I would consider joining Medi-Share instead of getting health insurance. Medi-Share is a Christian health care cost-sharing ministry, where you pay a certain amount each month, and they pay a certain amount toward your medical bills. It works similarly to health insurance, but technically it is not health insurance. However, it does satisfy the Obamacare individual mandate health insurance requirement. It also does not cover some morally objectionable services, especially abortion – which is a plus.

Try United Healthcare or Blue Cross Blue Shield know as Anthem in some states. I still pay for my own insurance. I will on go into Obamination as a total last resort. Because of my age I think I will be without insurance next year as they want me to pay more than I could afford. The penalty tax will actually be far cheaper.
