who the heck cares if these puny, insignificant bags of DNA who are just polluting the planet live for 25 years or 75? So that argument surely cuts both ways.
I DO! Because it’s the only life they get; & it shouldn’t be sacrificed for superstitious beliefs of somebody else.
True. Just because we take a loaded gun away from a 5-year old doesn’t mean that when he’s 7 he won’t ride into traffic and get killed. But we still take the loaded gun away.
No, you take away 1 gun, when there are thousands more lying around the child; furthermore, you do not even “take that 1 gun away”, you say the child shouldn’t use & it’s bad, then you give it back. It’s still there.

Then I presume you are staunchly opposed to abortion, right?
Sure, I’m against abortions, but I’m also for the pregnant person making the decision. They should be informed of all the options that are available, & take consequent actions.

So “but it’s the only life they get” may have to take a back seat to the desires of another. I’m not surprised, really. I bet 90% of those who want to save lives with condoms have no real qualms about taking lives with abortions. Odd how that works.

I’m against murder, but I’m also for the murderer making the decision.

2 week fetuses are not a seperate life by themselves. You will not be the one carrying the baby (in case of a situation for somebody else). Thus, they should be introduced to the available courses of actions & decide. (On an off-note; here abortions are legal during the first 12 weeks. I support this . On about 11-17 weeks the fruit enters the fetus stage & more complex development takes place).

A grown human are a seperate being with at least some form of critical thinking & decision making skills. When missionaries go to Africa, do they actually teach those people that there are other options? That having sex is not condemned by all, furthermore our God isn’t the only one; & all supernatural claims are almost equally valid since there is no impirical evidence or support for any of them? That you can save your life & protect yourself from HIV by abstinence, faithfulness to one partner (from both sides), or condom. Our God might be angry with you, but heck, there are a bunch more who say otherwise, & they actually might be right. Be the judge for yourself.

Why are we talking about abortion again?

I have read the whole thread. Her original question was about the Church’s stance on condom use “in Africa”. Being in Africa is what throws so many different consideratons into the pot that people sometimes struggle with this issue in this particular situation.

So you nicely apologized to her but just couldn’t refrain from making a rather tacky 'ASSUMPTION" to me for defending the OP. Btw, you’re smiley face does make it a tad insincere.
I guess that i was discussing the issue with lemon and that I had attempted to explain my concern which I DO feel is legitimate, and I did not appreciate a “bystander” remonstrating with me or wagging his metaphorical finger. If it makes you happier consider the smiley withdrawn.

So it’s wrong for somebody to ask questions? Dos their faith/religious affiliation or none matter? They came to a specific forum asking questions, yet instead of being educated on the subject they get shunned just because they are not a certain way. REal nice…

To lemonbeam: I feel that you’re struggling with: if the Church is supposed to spread God’s message of love & hope & help people, but at the same time this “medication” can prevent a disease that is killing thousands of people. Yet the Church is chosing to follow it’s own values & teachings & the way they spread this message results in many people being dead or taught that condoms shouldn’t be used.
Simply put: A conflict between the “good message” of the Church & the results that message actually achieves or, in this case, the harm that is done.
Is that what you are struggling with?
Ahem,I have nothing against people asking questions or even as a matter of fact challenging my faith,I DO however resent people posing as Catholics and aking credulous or disengenuous questions which betray a complete lack of knowledge of the Catholic Faith and which may be calculatedly posed in order to cause doubt in weak or unknowledgeable Catholics who may be participating on this thread or LURKING as many do and as I did for YEARS.So climb down off your tiny high horse. My intent was honorable,Lemon stated that she was a poorly catechised Catholic(in so many words) and I apologised TO HER and asked her to forgive me so keep your comments to yourself,Dude or Dudette and MYOB:thumbsup:

Goodness…perhaps you thought that the thread was centered on you and your conversation but in the future you might want to remember when other “bystanders” are in the thread it is quite normal for them to respond to what they are reading. Maybe you shouldn’t be quite so sensitive to “metaphorical fingers” (your words) responding to what you seem to perceive as a private conversation.

Then read acurately.Not just the words but their meaning and above all intent.It’s not difficult.🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

If the thread centered on me and my conversation I would EXPECT others to comment, but as YOU have indicated it was really an aside directed to one person who is most assuredly NOT YOU.So I repeat MYOB:) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Actually sir, you made it my business when you publicly berated and accused someone on a public forum of which I was a participant. I called you out on it BEFORE you apologized, after finding out you were indeed wrong, therefore I was not piling on after the apology. I responded to the rude way you responded to me. Don’t slay the messenger.

Please remember that everyone is in a different place in their journey. They may indeed not be catechized “as well” as you. Perhaps you might study the last part of your own quote a little more though. QUIS UT DEUS! You know, humility and all. I’m done. Let it go.
