I am going to a general confession soon.

Undoubtedly I am not going to be able to remember every sin I have committed although I have tried my utmost to list everything I can remember during an examination of conciousness,

After this confession and absolution do I only need to be concerned about sin after the confession or do I need to go back if I remember a sin that I did not confess in the general confession?
 
What I do is an Examination of Conscience before Confession and I write down every sin beforehand. If you forget a venial sin, you have already received the words of Absolution and are forgiven for “these and all of your sins.” But, if you forget a mortal sin…you would definitely need to confess that as soon as you go to Confession next. God realizes that we are not going to remember every sin. Concentrate on the big sins, and pray that God reveals to you the sins that you need to confess! I hope this helps! 🙂
 
My priest once told me that if you unintentionally forget a sin in confession, it’s forgiven and not to worry about it.
 
If you have forgotten to confess something honestly and not intentionally held it back you simply confess it the next time. That is why I try to go to confession every four to six weeks. Going often helps allot with forgetfulness.
 
What happens then if you never remember a mortal sin you have committed and you die without remembering it. Are you condemned?
 
For a sin to be mortal three conditions must be present. The sin must be of Grave matter, Full knowledge and Complete consent of the will. Sins of that magnitude are hard to forget. We must also remember that the demons go to work very quickly trying to tempt us with feelings of unworthiness and despair. They hate to see anyone go to confession. I would recommend reading The Cure of Ars, it gives a great insight into the importance of confession.
 
If you go to confession with a contrite heart and confess all the sins that you remember and you receive the words of absolution, then all your mortal and venial sins are forgiven. When I say “all” I mean both the ones that you mentioned and the ones that you forgot. There is no partial or condition absolution.

After confession if you refuse to perform the penance you commit a new sin. If you remember some mortal sin that you forgot to confess then you need to bring them up to the next confession even considering that you have already been absolved of them. If the next time you choose not to confess them, then you commit a new sin.

if one forgets (not hides) a mortal sin (we have to confess those…number and kind etc) then yes one is obliged to confess it in the next confession after one remembers. (but the fact that one is intending to make a good confession and are contrite and amended for all mortal sins…even forgotten ones…it is absolved indirectly in that first confession…but one is still obliged to confess it if one remembers it)
 
I’m glad I found this thread, because I just went to confession and while I was in my car I remembered a sin I forgot. I was concerned I would not be able to recieve at mass (which is in half an hour.
