Hey, I was wondering if there were any afternoon prayers that can be said everyday. I have my morning and night prayers that I can say everyday.

This is my morning prayer -

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son’s Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. (Thrice)

O Lord, my God, I hate all my sins and wickedness. I confess my ingratitude and I take sanctuary in Thy mercy. O Mary, my Mother, help me.

O Lord, cleanse my humble soul from every defilement of flesh and spirit.

O My Sweet Love, reach your Merciful arm down into Purgatory and snatch up the souls most dear to you and bring them into Your Beatific vision… where they long to be.

Act of Consecration to Mary:

I, a faithless sinner, renew and ratify today in thy hands the vows of my Baptism; I renounce forever Satan, his pomps and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before. In the presence of all the heavenly court I choose thee this day for my Mother and Mistress. I deliver and consecrate to thee, as thy slave, my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior, and even the value of all my good actions, past, present and future; leaving to thee the entire and full right of disposing of me, and all that belongs to me, without exception, according to thy good pleasure, for the greater glory of God in time and in eternity.

Receive, O benignant Virgin, this little offering of my slavery, in honor of, and in union with, that subjection which the Eternal Wisdom deigned to have to thy maternity; in homage to the power which both of you have over this poor sinner, and in thanksgiving for the privileges with which the Holy Trinity has favored thee. I declare that I wish henceforth, as thy true slave, to seek thy honor and to obey thee in all things.

O admirable Mother, present me to thy dear Son as His eternal slave, so that as He has redeemed me by thee, by thee He may receive me! O Mother of mercy, grant me the grace to obtain the true Wisdom of God; and for that end receive me amongst those whom thou lovest and teachest, whom thou leadest, nourishest and protectest as thy children and thy slaves.

O faithful Virgin, make me in all things so perfect a disciple, imitator and slave of the Incarnate Wisdom, Jesus Christ thy Son, that I may attain, by thine intercession and by thine example, to the fullness of His age on earth and of His glory in Heaven.

Amen.

This is my night prayer -

Sancte Michael Archangele…
Precious Blood, wash over me.
Ave Maria… Ave Maria… Ave Maria…
O my Mother, preserve me from mortal sin.

Lord, grant that I may pass through this night in peace. If I have forsaken prayer or done anything evil, I am heartily sorry. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am Thy unworthy and unprofitable servant.

By the sprinkling of Thy Precious Blood, O Lord Jesus Christ, and by the merit of thy Passion, wash me from every stain, and cleanse me from all sin.

Oh Most Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit; I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

Amen.

So, is there any afternoon prayers like the ones above that I can say everyday? Thanks.

The Angelus is to he said three times daily. Morning, noon and evening. There are daily prayers for the souls in purgatory. The Divine Office has a mid-day prayer. The Divine Mercy chaplet can be prayed daily at 3pm. The possibilities are endless!

You may want to search “daily catholic prayers” on the internet for ideas.

You are welcome. I pray the divine office, angelus and divine mercy chaplet and rosary daily myself. And I pray daily for the souls in purgatory. I have gotten a little slack though…I had a baby about a month ago. With a newborn, toddler and four year old…it’s a wonder I can pray at all somedays! 😛

I really like the Little Office of the BVM. Its somewhat shorter than the Divine Office but has the same “hours”. I use an older form of the Office (1904 version). The old language appeals to me.🙂

I have a Little Office book as well. I am thinking about praying both…since I have them, why not?

The divine office is used by clergy and I think the little office was designes for laity. I could be completely wrong though. 🙂

The current LOTH was designed for both clergy, and to facilitate the laity’s use of it. In fact in the General Instructions, the Laity are encouraged to pray the Divine Office… the post Vatican II version.

Pre-Vatican II in fact the Divine Office was for clergy and religious. One of the good things about Vatican II was encouraging the laity to join the clergy in the prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours, and the redesign of the Office in a manner that makes it within reach of the laity, in its entirety or in part.

The monastic version is probably too heavy for most laity though, and the pre-Vatican II version was certainly too much for the laity as well.

Thank you for clarifying. Ora et Labora…A Benedictine…I presume?
