Hisalone…there is a distinction that needs to be made

When Mary became the ark of the new covenant…was she only the ark of the SPIRIT of Christ? Or was she fully the ark for Him, body blood soul and divinity?

I would say that for Catholics we become far more “arks of the new covenant” when we partake of the Eucharist. We do not just ask Christ to somehow invisibly dwell in our hearts by reciting a sinners prayer and having faith alone… We actually, truly partake of Him…becoming arks of the new covenant in the fullest sense…Just as our blessed mother:)

To Martin, Hisalone and all our dear Protestant separated brothers and sisters in Christ!

Here is something else regarding Purgatory for you. I dug them out today. Have no idea if anyone else posted them. Haven’t had time to read all the threads. Here goes:

• 1 Cor 3:15 is clear: “……He himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames”.

• Some say God does not demand expiation after forgiving sins. What about David? When he repented, Nathan told him: “The Lord, on his part, has forgiven you; you shall not die but since you have utterly spurned the Lord by this deed, the child born to you (Bathsheba) must surely die” (2 Sam 12:14) Even after David’s sin was forgiven, he had to undergo expiation (purgation, in this life).

• In Nb 20:10-13, because Moses doubted and struck the rock at Meribah twice to yield water, he was not allowed entry by God into the Promised Land. This was his “purgation”, illustrating that purging or atoning for sin forgiven can take place in this life as well as in the next.

• In the OT deuterocanonical book (Apocrypha) 2 Macc 12:4-46, we read: “It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins”. Judas Maccabeus had arranged for an atonement offering to be made in Jerusalem, after taking up a collection of 2000 drachmas in silver for those soldiers who had fallen in battle on whom had been found idolatrous lucky charms of the idols of Jamnia, contrary to the prohibition in Deut. 7:25. this was done to make full atonement for their sin

🙂
If Jesus paid it all the full price of our sins then your examples are for a time prior to the debt being paid.

We see Christ’s sacrifice and mission foreshadowed all throughout the old testament.

We cannot just discard the messages hidden within old testament scripture…they are no “irrelevant” now that Christ has fulfilled the prophesies. Rather…they are ILLUMINATED and revealed by the light of Christ and His sacrifice.

Reading the old testament scripture in the light of its fulfillment makes it VERY relevent and very important to understand.

Hi, Martin777

Not only is this off-topic (remember: Catholic Scriptural Challenge…) but, you did not answer AshleyBelle’s question
Martin777;4537795:
While I am confident that AshleyBelle knows how the Canon was formed, I really do not have such confidence in you.

Please answer the question in a thorough manner as opposed to the flippant manner you have been addressing items.

I think you are capable - make me proud of you 👍

God Bless
Do either of you know haow the Jewish cannon was formed?

You crack me up!🙂

Mary did not come short of the glory of God.

She was chosen by God to be his mother.

She was always full of grace.

What does FULL of grace mean?
his alone:
Do you not realize that you have placed Mary on par with God.
Same thing as it means when people are saved to enter heaven. They are free from all sin and full of grace.

Mary was redeemed at conception and made full of grace, and was thus restored to the state of sinlessness the First Eve had before the fall.

Do you have the faith to contain Christ?
That is the faith with which God asks us to have in order to trust Him completely.

When we have that faith, that gift from God, then not only do we contain Christ, but Christ contains us, and in that inexplicable act of God we are all, the entire Church, made one in Christ with God and with each other. To contain and be contained in Christ is life eternal, and how The Church becomes One with Christ, and the only way in which we can become a part of The Body of Christ.
Mary said yes can you say yes?
That is the question we are all called to answer. I answer YES!!

God bless all!!!

Cool.

Are you the arc of the new covenant?

Origen of Alexandria (185-254 A.D.) – A ecclesiastical writer and teacher who contributed to the early formation of Christian doctrines.

We may thus assert in utter confidence that the Jews will not return to their earlier situation, for they have committed the most abominable of crimes, in forming this conspiracy against the Savior of the human race…hence the city where Jesus suffered was necessarily destroyed, the Jewish nation was driven from its country, and another people was called by God to the blessed election.
This is NOT a proper reference. Where is the reference to the specific letter or writing? If you put this quote as is in a term paper it would be disallowed.

John Chrysostom (344-407 A.D.) – One of the “greatest” of church fathers; known as “The Golden Mouthed.” A missionary preacher famous for his sermons and addresses.

The synagogue is worse than a brothel…it is the den of scoundrels and the repair of wild beasts…the temple of demons devoted to idolatrous cults…the refuge of brigands and dabauchees, and the cavern of devils. It is a criminal assembly of Jews…a place of meeting for the assassins of Christ… a house worse than a drinking shop…a den of thieves, a house of ill fame, a dwelling of iniquity, the refuge of devils, a gulf and a abyss of perdition."…"I would say the same things about their souls… As for me, I hate the synagogue…I hate the Jews for the same reason.

From “The Roots of Christian Anti-Semitism” by Malcolm Hay
This is NOT a proper reference. Just because Malcolm Hay says it’s so? 100 internet sites could copy this quote as is and NOT one of them would be correct until they give the specific reference.

Also, how is this part of the subject of the thread?

Hisalone, if I missed your reply to me regarding things “taught” in the bible let me know what post number it is.
You said anything not in the bible contradicts it.
I asked you to explain this theory to me.

Ag Not, when’s the cut off point for your decision to dis-enroll in RCIA as soon these people prove Catholicism is anti-Biblical?

Surely you will decide before the Rite of Election? Ash Wednesday is February 25, 2009, so I guess the Rite of Election would be around the first of March, that weekend?

So, that’s 10 weeks? I wonder if this thread will last 10 weeks before it reaches its limit and is closed.

Hi, Martin777

You had a chance to make me proud … and, you blew it. 😦

The proper approach is to simply answer the question asked of YOU, as opposed to ignoring it (as you have so often done) and then trying to divert the topic to something totally unrelated. You still have failed to identify ONE THING in the thread that is CONTRARY (against) Scripture taught by the Catholic Church. Saying something is not contained in Scripture is quite different from saying that somethng contained in Scripture is denied by the Catholic Church. Please keep this distinction in mind when you respond.

This approach (or non-approach) has become a standard and really does not hold up to the most casual examination.

Here is a hint for the original question: the Catholic Church had a lot to do with the Bible you are so dearly reading.

Here is a link that may help you in formulating your answer: newadvent.org/cathen/03267a.htm But, do not stop at this link - it really is important for you to know where the Bible came from.

Now, you have a second chance to make me proud…👍 Can you do it?

God Bless

Some people are as Paul describes in II Tim 3:7–“always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” An amazing statement.
**Hi Martin,👋 **

Yea It amazes me. It is so easy. Practice the Catholic religion, attend Mass, receive the body and blood of christ, pray the rosary and help others physically and spiritually. It isn’t rocket science! Jesus founded his church 2,000 years it is still here, unchanged.

**My favorite Bible verse: **

2:16**" … the dumb *** speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet" 2 Peter 16**

God Bless

I think it will have to go on to a part 2 and will continue until after Ag_not celebrates his/her 10th anniversary as a catholic.

Mary was full of grace, she was bearing Jesus who is the grace that entered this world. Mary full of Jesus who is grace John 1.

None of what you wrote addresses that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Answer me this Does Mary come short of the glory of God?
If she does then this verse specifically applies to her if she doesnt you have placed her on par with God.

I HAVE PROVEN MY POINT . IF YOU REMAIN BLIND THEN IT IS NOT THAT I HAVE NOT PROVEN MY POINT IT IS THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO REMAIN BLIND.
you’ve overlooked or ignored this response more than once so I am providing it once again for you to provide the proof of your point properly.

Hisalone, regarding Mary’s sinlessness
REPOSTED
The Protoevangelium (Gen. 3:15)

To see that there is more involved than just the fact that Christ came out of Mary’s womb, let us look at the very first prophecy about Christ in the Bible: Genesis 3:15. In that passage, God is cursing the serpent for having caused mankind to fall into sin, and he says,

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall crush your head, and you shall strike at His heel.”

Ever since the first century, Christians have recognized this as a prophecy of the coming of Christ, who would crush the dead of the devil, even as he himself was stricken by the devil on the cross.
But there is more than just a prophecy of the coming of Christ in this passage and more than a prophecy of the cross and of Satan’s defeat. There is also a prophecy of the Virgin Birth, as even Protestants recognize. The reason is that in this passage, Christ is described as the “Seed” of the woman. This is very unusual in Biblical language because normally it is only men whose offspring are described as their seed. In the ancient, biblical languages men have seed; women do not. The reason for this is that the ancients often held a particular view of human reproduction which made it more natural to talk about men having seed. In the question and answer period, we can discuss this view of reproduction if you want, for now simply note that it was very unusual in the biblical languages for a women to be described as having seed.

Since it was very unusual to talk about women having seed in the Bible, this means that there is something very unusual about the birth of Christ – the Seed of the woman. It means that he was born only of a woman, without the intervention of a man, whose Seed he would otherwise be. As a result, Christians have always regarded Genesis 3:15 as containing a prophecy of the Virgin Birth. And Protestants are included in that. They fully recognize that Genesis 3:15 prophesies not only the coming of Christ, but the way in which he could come: through the womb of a virgin.

But this means that the woman described in Genesis 3:15 is more than just Eve. Eve was not a virgin. All of the children Eve had were fathered by her husband, Adam, according to the normal course of nature. As a result, the woman in Genesis 3:15 is more than just Eve because Eve did not have any virgin births. Therefore, we know that Mary, the only woman in history to have a virgin birth, is specially in view in the Genesis 3:15.
