Again, I am desperate!

But this time it is about Mother’s day.

My elderly Mom lives with me. I have several other brothers who will all call my Mom on Mother’s day. What can I do? She does not like flowers. She does not want to go out for brunch. She does not want to go for a drive (which she usually enjoys) because then my brothers cannot call her.

HELP!!! I am desperate for ideas.

(I should also add that I am sick right now with an upper respiratory virus.)
 
How are you feeling? Hope better.

Well you don’t have much time. considering you aren’t feeling well, but how about a photo album of pics when you and your siblings were small? I made one for my mom once for mother’s day with pics of the grandchildren.

I don’t know how feasible it is for you to do this. Maybe a computer slide show would take less time. (do you have access to a scanner and baby pics?)

Offer Jesus your sickness and virus, in union with His sufferings on the Cross, for your mother.

I suggest making her something, like a card.
 
Some years ago my daughter gave me an envelope full of Mothers’ Day vouchers…from her. She had identified things she was willing to do for.with me, all I had to do was present her with a voucher.

So what about something like that for your Mom. You could give her that drive, on a day when she would not be fretting that she is missing the phone calls, but you’d both know it was her Mothers’ Day gift. I’m sure you could think of other things that could be included.

All you need is to spend some time at the computer (since we’re part of an on-line community, that part is easy), think of suitable coupon offers you are willing to make and there you have a unique gift for your mom. 😉
 
If you are up for it, (and hope you are feeling better soon!!) cook dinner for your mom. Buy her a nice card…I think I will love my kids cooking a meal for me someday. 🙂 Surprise her, though, because if you tell her she might say, like many moms would…‘oh don’t fuss over me.’ Just buy some of her favorite things and surprise her either with maybe a breakfast OR dinner on Mother’s Day. Just my thoughts. 🙂
 
One of the best Mother’s Day presents I ever got was when my kids brought a small grill over and fixed us all burgers with all my favorite side dishes. No hassle about restaurants, no waiting. It was great!
 
I don’t know how you define “elderly”, but I do know that older folks start to lose their ability to taste as they age. Sugar is the one thing that tends to linger and tastes good to them. So, maybe a box of special chocolate or some other sweet treat? Before my Mom died and when she was still able to do a little for herself, I’d leave her a small chocolate candy bar on her night stand every day. It would always be gone the next day.
 
How about just looking her in the eyes and saying, “Mom, you have given me so much in my life. No gift could ever express my gratitude. I just want to say thank you and I love you.”? Then give her a big hug.

That’s what I would say and do for my mom if she were still alive…
