I have read a few different websites that claim the earth is less than 7,000 years old, Where do they get this from out of the bible???

They do not get this from the bible, but insist that the bible alone be the sole rule of faith.

It is looked at like this though: God made the heavens and the earth and everything in them in 6 literal 24 hour periods and rested for a 7th 24 hour period.

The Jewish calendar shows the year 5767 and many protestants figure they started recording days at the beginning of time, so the world has to be less than 7000 years old by that logic, but again, they have to look outside the bible to come up with that.

The pope ratzinger in his explanationa bout the creation , point out that the 7 days scenario have two porpuses:
  1. That God is the almighty creator.
  2. God rested on the 7th day. this means that God made his alliance with mankind that day. In order that the 7th day must be the day of the lord. the day in whcih we must workship him.
Pope Benedict said that, thatss the meaning behind the literacy behid the seven day scenario.
