The Angel penalizes Zachary in Luke 1:5-25. Has our guardian angel the power to penalize us?

I would say they do, but that is conjecture.

We don’t in fact know that this was Zechariah’s guardian angel; just **an **angel.

My understanding is that Angels do the will of god, whatever that is. Now if God Instructs our guardian angels to penalise us, then they definitely can.

Of course, this is just my understanding of the topic. I’m looking forward to what others will say.

It is believed that “the angel of the Lord”, as he is described in Luke, chapter 1: 11, is the Archangel Gabriel. I heard this at our recent parish mission.

Our guardian angel’s purpose is to guide us and protect us, not punish us.

CCC 336 From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.

The underlying premise is that it was a “Guardian Angel” that did this. Rather it was probably another angel that did this, following God’s guidance?!
