Well we really don’t have health insurance, they canceled it the day my husband was laid off. Something about because they pay it bi-weekly? I’ve never heard of a company that cancels it the day you leave. I thought that was the whole point of Cobra that you don’t lose your insurance. They’re putting the Cobra paperwork in the mail today. So as of right now I’m in heart failure and have Crohn’s disease and have no health insurance. I have medicine waiting at the pharmacy that I have to pay for out of pocket.

My daughter’s confirmation is in less than two weeks and we can’t even afford to go out to dinner for it. I wanted to get her a nice gift and a new dress but I can’t do that either. I do have to come up with something for her sponsor. I’m trying so hard to stay calm because my husband already feels awful about all this but I feel like I’m on the verge of just breaking down and sobbing.

Thank you all for your prayers and the links and tips. I do appreciate it.
I will pray for you! :gopray:

How about a spiritual gift for your daughter’s sponsor? Like a spiritual bouquet, a Mass card, offering a Holy Hour for him/her, etc.? If you can’t afford a gift for your little girl, then don’t even think about worrying about buying a gift for the sponsor! Besides, a spiritual gift is infinitely more valuable. 👍

Thanks! I’ll get her something little. I just had something more special in mind. This is a once in a lifetime sacrament and I wanted things to be extra special but we’ll make do. The crazy thing is when my daughter made her first communion I had just got out of the hospital not even a week before and my husband got laid off the day after I came home. That time we had already scheduled a big party at a local restaurant and sent out invites so my parents stepped in and footed the bill.

have you tried Walmart for your meds as they advertise most drugs are only $4.00.

Also, most of the drug companies that make the pills for Crohn’s pts. do offer patient assistance programs if they do not have any insurance at all. You just have to call their customer service and they will send you the necessary forms to fill out. I do know that Humira, Remicade, Entocort for example do have programs in place for those who can’t afford it.

Feel free to PM me if you need any help in obtaining your treatments for CD. I can even do the research for you if you don’t have the time. I can relate to not having the $$$ for your illness so I know what I am talking about. praying for you and your family. God Bless.
I will pm you. I do take Entocort, and also Sulfasalazine. The Sulfasalazine isn’t bad out of pocket I have to go pick that up today but the Entocort is expensive with insurance, I can’t even imagine what it is without it. Plus I have a bunch of heart meds. I should be able to get Coumadin from my doctors office. I’ll have to see about the rest.

Well, here’s an idea. You could get her something little now, and then next year on her confirmation anniversary you will hopefully be in a better situation and can do something extra-special and go out to her favorite restaurant or something. Sort of like a birthday party! 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear that these things keep happening around such special times in your lives. 😦 Sounds like “someone” is trying his hardest to mess things up and distract as much as possible from the joyous events that are bringing you all closer to Jesus.

Oh Rayne…I am so sorry. A lot of us are going through hard times right now, you are not alone in this.

*COBRA, and extending insurance are two separate things…COBRA will cost you out of pocket, and extending someone’s insurance, the company takes that upon themselves, if the person is no longer receiving a paycheck. I am thinking what happened is that the company only pays through to where the person can contribute, which many companies AS A COURTESY will continue paying for coverage, for 30 days, after the person is laid off…now with the state of the economy, who knows what companies can get away with…

I’m so sorry!!! 😦 I’m praying like crazy that your husband can find something suitable to get you guys through, very soon! Praying that you will have peace of mind through this tough time too, rayne. As Mother Teresa used to say in response to ‘God only gives us what we can handle.’ She’d say…‘He must think I can handle A LOT!’

I know brighter days are ahead…please let me know if there’s anything I can do for you, rayne…beyond prayers. I will do it to help you, if I can. *

Aww…thanks so much. And thank you for your pm too. It’s kind of funny you mentioned that quote, I have it on my facebook right now.

I was looking at the job listings last night online and it was just depressing. The manufacturing industry as just tanked in this state. Absolutely nothing in what my husband is most trained for. And what is available, the pay offered is not something one could support a family on. I mean we live very modestly. We live in a double wide mobile home, we drive two used cars, I shop at Wal-mart and Salvation Army for crying out loud. We only have trac cell phones that we use for emergencies. We no longer have credit cards, haven’t for years. Our only bills besides medical are utilities and basic needs. The last job my husband had was a big pay cut from his previous and we were barely making it with that one. These jobs listed offer even less. How could a person survive on such a meager wage, I really don’t know.

God has always had out back, its just hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel right now. If I was healthy I wouldn’t be so scared but my heart could really take a bad turn at anytime. And my poor hubby just feels horrible. He feels responsible even though all of this stuff is out of his control.😦
