Agnus Dei: Eucharistic Hymn

During Mass the Agnus Dei is sung right before receiving Holy Communion. It’s obvious that the Lamb of God that is being talked about is Jesus. So, could the Agnus Dei be put in the same cateogory with other Eucharistic hymns such as Adoro te Devote, Pange Lingua, O Salutaris Hostia, etc?

Not sure of your question…but the Agnus dei is part of the Mass.

Not really. The Agnus Dei is a “formulary” which means it must be said (or sung). The later hymns are optional.

It MUST be sung in the prescribed place of the mass.

However, there would be nothing wrong with singing it a second time in the liturgy at an appropriate place - for instance, doing a choral setting of it at the preparation of the gifts or even during communion, or repeating it during communion.
