Today at Mass they sang the Agnus Dei in Latin in polyphony style of singing. It was absolutely beautiful and spirit lifting. This, imo, was a refreshing departure from our usual high pitched, jarring, modern hymns. I would be thrilled if the entire Mass was sung in more reverent, peaceful, chants/hymns, but I know that many don’t share my taste. However, I hope maybe those who prepare the music will add a little of the old in with the new…for those of us who think “New” is anything after 1600:)

Make sure the music director knows how much you enjoyed it.

Peace

I, for one, wholeheartedly agree.IMHO, you can’t go wrong with the older chants/hymns-they really do lift the soul & point us heavenward with renewed vigour & dedication. At least, that’s my experience.

I absolutely love hearing the Agnus Dei in Latin. Our church did that for the Lent season. It was refreshing to hear that for even that period. Our music director will also throw a Latin song here or there throughout the year as well, but they seem to be used more during special times in the Church.

Hearing the Angus Dei sung in Gregorian Chant is peaceful.
You realize that the Lamb of God is definitely merciful.

Do you know, by any chance, which setting it was? The Agnus Dei from Palestrina’s Missa Brevis is hands-down my absolute favorite piece of Latin polyphonic music ever.
That version of Agnus Dei in the video was beautiful and it was very similar to the way it was sung in Mass this past Sunday. It really does, imo, bring a whole new reverence and spirit of holiness to the Mass.

I love love love love love the Agnus Dei!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

My taste is very much like yours. I just melt when the choir sings with such reverence.
